Prog bands with a death metal sound.

Are there any prog bands out there with more of a death metal sound. Dream Theater is cool and all, but I can only listen to it for so long before I start to go nuts... Are there any prog bands out there with more of a death metal edge to them?

Orphaned Land, Opeth, Wintersun, Ensiferum, Wood of Ypres, Forest Stream, Kayo Dot, there's a few.

Ephel Duath too.

Into Eternity is a band I've become pretty fond of lately. They are a prog-metal band with both clean and death vocals--the clean vocals remind me of Ray Alder from Fates Warning. Very intriguing band, and their latest album "Buried in Oblivion" has some great songwriting.

Hey Hey now were talking.. I forgot all about Into Eternity. That is a perfect example of what I am looking for. Are there any bands that are similar to them?

I'd throw in Martyr and Quo Vadis, too - while more "tech" and less progressive, they've still got something to offer the prog fan...

Necrophagist is awesome. Interesting history too, everyone quit the band other than the main guy Muhammed before they recorded the debut and then they rejoined after the debut was finished!

You might also want to check out Arsis. They're not really prog but they are quite cool.
