Acoustic stuff? I was at a party once and my friend said he was listening to newer Opeth. The music was some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard. (slower acoustic stuff with some strings.. it was a while ago and I don't remeber exactly what it sounded like) Anyways, he said it was new Opeth stuff. Can anyone who listens to these guys on a regular basis attempt to shed some light on this?

Re: Did Opeth ever release an album of...
The newest album Deliverance (I think, they released 2 albums at once, or a few weeks apart, one heavy the other mellow) is the mellow one. Mainly acoustic with some heavy leads in certain parts. The majority of their music is mixed between the heavy stuff and acoustic w/ clean vocals, it's not really too much of one or the other. I have Blackwater Park & My Arms, Your Hearse. I recommend em both to ya.

Your friend was listening to Damnation. There's no strings...its all synthesizer and mellotron. Lots and lots of mellotron.
If you think that's amazing take a gander to the band "Camel" fucking amazing, OPeth's main source of inspiration these days.

Just for info ...Even My Dad loves "Damnation"...it sounds like old Moody Blues at times...well that's what he says.
I burned a copy for him...something to listen to when he gets baked..Well I'd know he'd like it!!!
hey the apple don't fall far from the tree..
I showed him their other material...he couldn't believe it was the same band..
I asked him if I should burn "My arms your hearse" as Demon of the fall was playing....he said ..No thank you!!!!!
Hey did they put out a DVD yet...
I want to get a live show...these guys put on one of the best shows I have ever seen...and I am not kidding!!! "Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

Seen them live once and it was a top score gig, and I´m critical...
The DVD is great too.
They close the show with "A fair judgement", that slow ultraheavy riff played REAL slow.
The documentary is very interesting too.
Check it out guys!!

Really? I think they recorded them both at the same time then. Hell, I can't remember anything anymore. 2 great albums, that's all I can say bout it
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I believe they were written and recorded around the same time. Deliverance was originally supposed to be just really heavy like death metal with no mellow parts at all, but then Michael decided to make it just like every other Opeth album and add the melodic mellow parts into it. And Damnation, of course, was totally mellow and unexpected, but still an amazing album overall. The dvd is great, too. Opeth are awesome!!!!!
