  • Viv Campbell/Jeff Beck Charvel/Jacksons '85

OK, I'm trying something out here; my first photo upload! I thought it was time to contribute some stuff that some of you may not have seen before that might be considered cool.

From Guitar World, Jan '85 issue, cover story on Jeff Beck: this is the pink Soloist that was built for him and given by Grover Jackson, that Jeff played with Tina Turner and in Rod Stewart's "Infatuation" video (note the hand-etched signature that Tina dug into the wood itself!):

And a nice full-body shot of one of Viv Campbell's Charvels from the Dio era. This guitar has been photographed with several different necks over the years:

Let's see if this works out (followed NOTP's tutorial on photo hosting!)

Seeing that pic with Vivian and that Charvel brought back memories. I saw him during the Holy Diver tour, and the stage was set up like the album cover. And then with Vivian having the matching guitar, that was too cool.
Too bad a bunch of yocals started a free for all and security threw out tear gas after Helix had finished their set. Funny thing is, a few years later one of those guys ended up dating/marrying my sister.

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Cool - I've never seen Vai doing 'Get the Hell Outta Here' before. I'm a big fan of his when he's playing in a fairly strict song structure.

Did Beck ever actually use the Soloist in the studio? It's been so long since I read any interviews from those days, that I can't remember.

He did it in G3 in Denver vid. That's the one with Yngwie I believe.

Did Viv take that guitar and put a strathead\Maplefingerboard neck on it, or was it a totally different guitar with the same paint job?
