• Gary Moore , a forgotten guitar hero?

I have sort of been re-discovering Gary Moore's stuff from the 80's. Although I used to play Shapes of Things in a cover band I haven't heard much since I lost Corridors of Power to a hungry cassette deck and lending out Victims of the Future to a buddy that I never saw again Anyways, I bought Victims of the Future on CD and have been listening to on the way to and from work, my god, what a great player he was/is. Shapes of things, Empty Rooms, Murder in the Skies are cool songs. That album has a couple tracks that sound like a producer pushed him towards being commercial which are not good but still have some good guitar playing in them.

There are not many players that can make the hair on the back of my neck stand up like it did when I hear the solo of Shapes of Things or get goose bumps from listening to Empty Rooms.

I know a lot of the younger players on the board may not know of him of if they do think of him from the Still got the Blues eras (which I don't care for myself, not my bag) but if you get a chance check out Gary Moore's first few solo records from the 80's. Way under rated guitar hero, Gary has it all, power, chops, taste, soul and feeling.

Oh Ya I used to have a cassette of his that had songs with vocals on one side and all instrumental, almost fusion songs on side two.
"Back on the streets" was the name of the album 1979, title track sung by the late great Phil Lynott of thin Lizzy
Just completely smoking guitar playing on the whole album (way before he got into his blues thing)
I wish I could find a copy of the album, I'd
definitely pick up another copy.

Gary Moore was a monster player. His blues stuff...I can't say anything positive about it. I can't stand Thin Lizzy so I can't comment on them either.

SOme of his blues stuff really stuck out with emotion. He may not be the SRV of the blues world, but can definitely grab your attention.

I think I saw a pic/poster with him a long time ago where he had a 16x12 Marshall cabinet. Anyone else ever see it, or a 16x12 cab?

I think G-Force, but whatever it was it totally kicked ass!

I thought the Still Got the Blues album was great--yeah, it's blues-oriented, but he's tearin' it up on that album. The ones after that seemed more boring and restrained.

Definitely a guy who's never gotten the recognition he deserves.

I got to see Gary Moore on the Corridors of Power tour. The End of the World has got to be one of the most shredding tunes ever. The intro still blows me away almost 25 years later.

Victim of the future was the first album I got when I was 13 in 1884.
That and Schenker's Rock Will Never Die album made me to start playing.

That and older stuff of Gary rocks and he is the man!

Yea the video was cool where it just showed his fingers on the fret board-Plus I gig phil lynott-I love old lizzy

I don't think he's forgotten. Anybody that has been playing since the 80's has had one or more of his offerings. He just quit playing that style any and didn't put out any albums so ....... Holy crap I went to his site-Some of those are early 80's damn I am getting old
