Bill, if Gary had taken the Ozzy gig it would have been "poor Randy has to play with Kevin Dubrow" instead of "poor Carlos"

As for Gary Moore, AMEN brutha! Same for John Sykes.

I saw Sykes fronting Thin Lizzy when they opened for Deep Purple last year. Thin Lizzy kicked DP's ass. Badly. John Sykes and Gorum were smokin'. It didn't help that Steve Morse is a terrible fit for DP - he's one of my favorite players but he sounded like ass in DP.

great post. gary moore's work in the 80's is much underated. if he was an american (and good looking) he would have been huge.

what i love about his playing is his phrasing. for example, on "empty rooms", the solos are like a vocal line. he does it all...melodic, memorable and full of emotion. "end of the world" contains one of the all time best guitar riffs. (michael angelo acknowledges it frequently, and even palys it on "speed kills".

gary moore always seems to choose the right note when he plays, and never falls into the "pattern" trap. unfortunately, i can't really get into his blues stuff as much....

Gary definetly gets points for not being good looking... Very valid point he was an outcast..

He still tears it up no doubt and he is way underrated...

I couldn't imagine Kevin Dubrow singing Mr. Crowley..

and poor Cavazo would be ...well in another band...probably Hurricane with his bro I guess..

That would have been an interesting chain of event gone wrong..

he has a very distinct style, you can always hear it's him...tone/style...very good with expressing feeling through the instrument. I like his work with Phil Lynnott in Thin Lizzy as well. check out some of their live stuff from back then.

He has been one of my favorites for as long as I can remember. I loved his 80's stuff, and when I was really young and heard Black Rose that was just the shit. No one attacks their fretboard like he does. Corridors of Power was a classic album to me.
