• Eric Sardinas: WOW!

Hey folks,
I caught Steve Vai last night, with Eric Sardinas opening. For those of you who don't know, Sardinas is a long-haird dude who plays slide on an old Dobro. I was remotely aware of who he was, and thought it would be interesting to see him play. What I wasn't expecting was an electric Dobro with screamin' gain cranked though a Rivera stack! This dude was awesome...using the slide with feedback, making it sound like a tremolo, etc....totally blew me away. In fact, the general concensus was that he stole the show. I haven't seen anybody lay down that kind of energy live in years. Vai was great, but it was much more of a subdued type of performance, and (dare I say it) almost boring in comparison. I'm not the world's greatest slide fan,(and I can't play slide for sh!t) but this dude is definitely worth a listen!

I'll give a listen to him. Haven't heard of him before, so I'll have to do some researching.

He's on the Steve Vai DVD Live at the Astoria. Pretty cool. Steve Brings him out at the end with Tony, Billy, and the other guy ....can't remember his name. Anyway, Sardinas stood and hung in there with those guys. Very entertaining.

Wow, I'll have to look for that! Where did you get it?

I checked out his website, and there's a few MP3s you can download, and there's a cool little video of him doing a beer commercial, layin' down some slide with the beer bottle.

Saw him opened for Vai a few years ago, really not my cup of tea, bt I have to admit the energy and the show was kind of cool. He even fired his guitar at the end. My buddy who went with me for the show became a fan straight away.

I caught Eric about 6 years ago at one of the NAMM shows before he had a deal. We ended up seeing him 2 times that weekend because he was so good. I haven't heard any of his recorded stuff but he was *amazing* live. Grabbed a beer bottle off some guys table and started playing hellacious slide with it. I've never seen anyone play like him before or since!

His sig model resonator is quite interesting.
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

Re: Eric Sardinas: WOW!

I too attended Steve Vai last night in Hartford. Eric KICKED MY ASS. Man, this dude is serious- a true player.
I took my 13 year old daughter and we got to meet a bunch of people- Tony McAlpine plays guitar almost as good as Vai- but he's really a classical piano player first. SICK!
Billy Sheehan is even better than John Mung (IMHO) My daughter scored a pick directly from Steve and I think it was his wife who gave her the evening's set lists as a memento to her first concert. Tony McAlpine's mother was right next to me and we talked about Tony as a kid only wanting to play music. I think I'll get his Insanity CD to check out.
I have to say- I just broke away from Jems and Universe's for Jacksons (got a Bengal SL2H) and I figured after I saw Vai I'd want another one- but noway- my Jackson is twice the guitar compared to ANY of the MANY Jems and 7 string Universe's I've had. He can have 'em.

Well, he is way better than Myung, no doubt about it.

I've seen Eric open for Vai three times. The first two were just awful. The fucked up noise he made was probably the shit they played for the Iraqi prisoners. He'd just play nonsensical noise wiggling the slide around like he was having a seizure. The third time I saw him he played pretty good. He stopped being such a spaz and laid down some tasteful playing.

He kicked ass in Cleveland-played slide with a full budweiser, shaking it up and letting it shoot out while he was playing. He's a fantastic performer, but sadly his brand of music is not exactly "popular" so the masses will most likely never witness it.
