• Nevermore - Enemies of reality

Anyone get their hands on the remastered version yet? Soundsamples, maybe? I've got the original one and this time I'd like to make sure I'm not buying an album that sounds like my speakers are buried beneath 2 feet of towels.

I heard one sample of it from Century Media's site I think, it sounds fucking PHENOMENAL! Andy Sneap is a god....It's like a totally different album....Buy it, you won't be disappointed....The sample I heard was Real Audio and it still sounded killer...

The new one does not come out in the US till the middle of April from what I'm told but I did talk to someone close to the project and from what he's telling me it's phenomenal.

My problem with Enemies of Reality is not the production. In fact, I think the production on this CD is a lot better than their earlier stuff, which is good enough for me. My with this album is the music. It's such a mediocre album. It's sounds like they didn't even care.

wow, that doesn't come acress to me at all on it. Its an awesome album. Their weakest effort IMO is their debut self-titled. Sanity Assassin is the only song on that one that really grabs my attention.

Re: Nevermore - Enemies of reality

What I've heard so far off of EoR wasn't anything awesome. It just didn't spark my interest. Perhaps it needs a relisten. I thought the songs went nowhere. They seemed to hover around the same riff too long, or a slow part of the song for too long.

Re: Nevermore - Enemies of reality

Just listen to EoR today a bit. It's better than I remember, but it still seems like a step down from ADHIADW. It does sound like a blanket is over the sound or something, but a thin blanket. In other words, I think the production problems are negligible.

listen to the remastered version....its a world of difference. THere is aLOT more goign on in EOR than you can here on teh original pressing. Lots of cool vocal effects and other stuff...its cool shit.

I should specify..that I too, don't think EOR is their best work, but its certainly worthy. I prefer POE and DNB. DHIADW was my intro to Nevermore..and I like the prior albums better. You just can't compete with a song like "The learning" and "Beyond Within"

Re: Nevermore - Enemies of reality

DHIADW is an album that's pretty difficult to match, so I don't think of it as surprising that EOR doesn't quite reach the same level. It still has its moments though, and there are just one or two songs that I don't care much for. A solid effort at least.
I have to admit that I exaggerated a bit with the 2 feet of towels comment, but it can't be denied that the album could have sounded MUCH better the first time around. Which is why it has been remastered now methinks.

DHIADW is definately a masterpiece, so I don't think they'll ever top that.

the mix ! it has been intirely remixed and mastered by andy sneap , I mean if it sounds killer on the real player [the suckest player of all lol] [off the century media site] it's gonna be totally awesome and clear ! and century media is killer for free stickers and shit if you order right from them , I get a handfull of stickers ,or posters every time I order direct through them ! and for 5 bucks ! I am just going to get a double jewel case and stick it with the original art work instead of buying it again . //Steve

Re: Nevermore - Enemies of reality

i don't have the remastered version yet, but nevertheless, i think EoR definitely has its great moments and is NOT an overall weak album. i can't get into noumenon at all, except for the shreddy guitar lead part at the very end
i sorta have to agree that it certainly doesn't top DHIADW (but after watching the little studio video and hearing some parts of the songs i think the new album might be able to do so), though.
now, as a general sidenote, i don't like the overall direction nevermore is taking nowadays. when i listen to PoE, In Memory, or even the s/t album (which imho is a MASTERPIECE....the only sub-par song is godmoney, all the others are REALLY cool, especially stuff like e.g. the C.B.F chorus) it seems like those earlier songs carry a lot more emotions and are way more atmospheric, whereas the newer ones tend to be just heavy. and hearing steve say that the new album will be their heaviest so far doesn't make me feel very comfortable actually.
sure, the new stuff is killer live, it punches right through your entire body so you just subconsciously start headbanging moshing and whatever, whereas the older stuff like in memory (unfortunately they hardly play those songs) certainly doesn't kick your ass the way the new songs do. but as far as i'm concerned, i could deal with less heavier songs if they were a little more atmospheric and "touching".
btw, i'm not neccessarily talking about ballads here, as i said above, listen to c.b.f, seas of possibilities etc...

sorry for the long post, but nevermore is one of my favourite bands...if not my overall favourite band
