Yeah, it was better with Joey. When he left, the band lost all their distinctive personality. Megadeth was intricate riffage and whiney vocals, Metallica was a breakneck squaredance with yelling, Slayer was wheedly-wheedly guitar soloes and satanic crap, Anthrax was humor and social commentary. Without the humor, the comic book references, obscure cover songs, goofy hats, etc., Anthrax became just some generic band.
Anthrax became neither Anthrax, nor Armored Saint. For some reason Bush Anthrax is good, but generic good. I guess put me down for +4, but Bush is still cool.

Since when was this the original line-up? Was it my imagination that Neil Turbin and Dan Lilker were original members of Anthrax? I guess so.

Same here. Joey... [img]/images/graemlins/sleep.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/sleep.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/sleep.gif[/img] I don't know, I used to love Joey's voice, now I can't stand it. I really dug Neil Turbin, too.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
I can't believe Scott says in one of those links that "there's never been any bad blood" - Yeah right: every interview with any of them got into them badmouthing each other as soon as they were mentioned, especially Danny and Scott....Still, I hope it works out as while I have no real preference over the singer, I prefer the material produced while Joey was there.

Yeah, exactly. It's not a question of which is the better singer. I even agree with some of the smack that Scott was talking about Joey's voice not sitting well in the mix. The point is that they had better, more memorable songs when Joey was there.

I definitely think they lost something when Bush came on. They were still good, but they were no longer different than anyone else. Necrotechno hit it on the head. +5
I loved all the early Anthrax (pre Bush) but IMHO I still like the John Bush era better. Hopefully they are not done with John. I just saw them about 6 months ago (opening for RJD) and they were awesome doing the greater of two evils thing.
I really hope this is a joke. Joey's live vocals sucked. Spitz became repetitive playing the same ascending/descending scales on every song. I think the band took a HUGE leap forward when Joey was given the boot. I love old Anthrax songs but I see no reason to revisit the past. They only thing I wish they had now was a really good lead guitarist. Rob Caggiano is okay but he winds up noodling most of the time and butchering the old solos.

Good call, they can't seem to get a lead player who works. After Spitz was out they had all of these fill-ins. It didn't work too well.
