Rotting Christ pulled out (under pressure from the management)...

[ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately we find ourselves in the difficult position to have to announce to our fans that we feel like canceling our upcoming participation in two big festivals (something that we have done several times before too) with the reason being our band's name. A name that expresses our opposition to any kind of religion, a name that opposes to any fake visions of an eternal calmness and peace, a name that is a punch at the conservative basis of the hypocritical and religious so called democratic societies.

Unfortunately the middle ages still find their way into the new millennium and METAL must support the freedom of the mind, something that it has been doing since its foundation.

what i could'nt understand is why would such talented musicians need sheet music on stage for a song they liked enough to cover?

[/ QUOTE ]

They probably learned it earlier that day.

If you watch the documentary on the DT Live at Budokan DVD, they were still learning the Number of the Beast album the day before they were going to perform it.

I'm curious; who was using sheet music? Jorden Rudess has a digital tablet that displays music charts, but he even uses that for DT tunes.

Given the complexity of DT's music, I don't consider using a chart or two cheating, if accuracy to the original is what you're after.

When I saw them perform MOP in Chicago, it was only Rudess and LaBrie that needed sheet music. I attributed it to the fact that they're really not the Metallica fans that Petrucci and Portnoy are.

Re: Mustaine...being judgemental.

Indeed, Tekky's right.

Petrucci and Portnoy are avid Metallica fans. They went from the 70's prog bands into the 80's more thrashy and heavy metal bands, like they've said themselves countless of times.

Rudess admitted he never really was exposed to 'metal', but definitly enjoyed the fresh new things he was picking up from it, but it wasn't really his cup of tea over-all.

LaBrie did a cool job though, he really tried his best on those Hetfield vocals and, eventhough strenuous at times, he did well by them! It's funny how he forgot the lyrics a couple of times, like Battery.

(Btw Rudess not knowing the songs 100% also added to the extended jam at the end of sanitarium, etc... Which is actually a good thing! )

Now to get back to the original thread. I feel as though Mustaine needs to make some name for Megadeth again, the spotlights were dimming, but they're back now.

Wow that is interesting Chicago was the first time they played the set Master of Puppets maybe after that they needed the sheets because the other guys didn't know the songs?

You only saw the one song... What Todd was atlaking about was the whole MOP set... and at that time Only Labrie was using Lyric sheets and Rudess

Didn't they play the whole Iron Maiden NOTB album somewhere, too? Wonder if they needed sheet music for that.

Yes, they played it at one of their shows in Japan. Not the Budakon show, though. In the documentary, it seemed like LaBrie was the one having the most difficulty with it.

My opinion on this:

That band name RC is just a stupid name that craves for attention. Lay off the religious bs crap guys and let the music do the talking.

Black metal, anti religion metal, does NOT make sense to me.
ugh....ugly ugly music, can't understand the words, can't understand the guitar sounds...stupid sounding mindless solos, ugly make up..gimiicks...they sound gay to me ...ugly!(again...my opinion)

As for those judging Mustaine's actions...heck its his show, and its his call.
The guy maybe an a-hole, but he did so much for music. Coming up with RUST in PEACE gave him the free pass in my book to do anything he wants.

Its his tour, its his call!

Stupid bands like RC can kiss my bee-hind!

Nothing personal my fellow JCF fuckwads!!!

But if you're going to slam a band or whole genre of metal...

have some "knowledge" of those bands first...how can you judge something that you never heard before..

There is good and bad in ALL genres of metal...I'd rather listen to an AWESOME Black metal band that a Shitty Power metal band...and visa versa..

Talent is talent...you can't deny talent..

I don't judge bands by themes , styles and lyrical content as long as the music and musicianship is slammin'...

I'm fucking %100 Satanist ..and I love bands like Believer , Tourniquet , Extol , Mortification , ...fucking Stryper..and a zillion other christian metal bands.

don't be closed minded butt plugs!!!!

so sayeth the Bill Z Bub..
