• ULI ROTH WORSHIP

OK , I'll make this blunt.

I think this guys is THE shit. I know just about every freaking shredder out there that is worth half a shit. But nobody ...NOBODY I am aware of posesses the kind of impeccable articulation and feeling that pours out of this dude.

Yeah , he's a quirky , aging , hippie throwback , ..but goddamn ...I've been following him since he left the Scorps in early 1978...and his playing just keeps getting better.

This is commendable and I think warrants praise ....Much more than this man recieves!

This guys was ahead of his time in so many ways but never acknowledge as an innovator ...he intiated so many elements that so many others got the glory for..especially anyone who incorparated classical music in a rock solo format...the birth of neo-classical shred...Not Randy , Not Yngwie , Not Eddie , or Vinnie , or Tony Mac and yada ..it was ULI Jon Roth!

He influenced so many for so long and without hardly ever a mention..So I am now..

If some reason you have not heard his work with the Scorpions or or his solo stuff ...you must...especially anyone who appreciates true guitar virtuocity.

I strongly recommend his 2000 double live solo release "Transcendental Sky Guitar" !! It's ULI in live and raw form...and the fucker sounds flawless..The first disc is classical oriented..the second is more of the same with a tribute to Hendrix that gets a bit boring..I just heard way too many versions of Hendrix tunes to get excited about....but there done great!

His latest studio release is "Metamorphisis Of Vivaldi's Four Seasons"...which is exactly what is ..the whole thing in it's entirety...with a orchestra...Malmsteen couldn't friggin' touch this...listen and you'll see what I mean.

and of course you have those classics like Sails of Charon , Catch Your Train , So Many lives away ...friggin' awesome!

He's been playing his own designed seven string , three octave "Sky Guitar" for many years...maybe longer than Via played seven string..maybe not..

So , who played the seven string first...Uli OR Steve

Hail Uli...

Uli's and Steve's 7-strings are totally different things really, Steve has a low B, Uli has a high A I think
Steve had his in the late 80's, dunno when Uli started playing with 7 string. But I have about 30 years old USSR 7-string acoustic

Yeah , you know I'm not shure what's the deal is on Uli axe...But I like that big ol' blue jewel stuck to it..NOT!

Well I said the dude is awesome but...quirky..

Vai did start playing his arounf 89' I think...I don't think he had one back in his Roth days..David Lee Roth that is...

Vai and Satch did a G 3 with his ass in Europe...man that had to rule!

I's love to see that on video!!

+1. ULI is GOD. I had a shirt that said it. I wore it until it turned into dust.
Check out Beyond the Astral Skies. It is some trippy music and quite weird and possibly the best guitar playing I have ever heard. His upper register phrasing is beyond comprehension.

Three words: Sails of Charon!

To this day, that's one of the songs that I won't attempt to learn, because I'll never match the magic of that beginning solo. Soul AND shred!

Well put. Soul and shred. Uli is the grandfather of neo-classical shredding. He started it all. He was my idol. Thats for sure.

Blackmore did the classical rock thing first, but Uli took it to the higher level

HELL YEAH! I caught him at the Wreck Room in NJ last year. I was right in front of him and he completely blew me away. I got a DVD with Michael Schenker in England that is great picture and sound quality. Get your hands on it!

Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

There was a big write up on him in GW or GOne in Feb.
I think people are starting to appreciate people like Uli on a much broader scale. I know that in the last few years, I have gotten bored with a great deal of the music out there son I have been looking for new things that are different and still apeal to the metalhead in me. I also have been looking for old 80's hair metal. Horns (i think i read your name is Bill) I dont quite have the heavy taste you do, but my beliefs are different prolly. But like you said in another post, Talent is Talent is talent...

Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

When did Blackmore start? I know that the Scorpions were around since the very early 70's (1973 I think).
IMHO, nobody plays like Roth. (he used to go by Ulrich Roth back in the early Scorpions days).

Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

I feel the same as everyone else regarding Uli. I've been a fan since the 70's when I first heard Virgin Killer. Uli has always been a major influence on me and one of my biggest heroes.

I hear so much of his playing in Malmsteen, MacAlpine, and many of the other shredders. The two I mentioned above have taken Uli's approach and made it their own, which is what it's all about.

My favorites have always Catch Your Train, Sails Of Charon, We'll Burn The Sky...hell, all of it.

The man is a legend and a god and deserves whatever praise we can throw at him.

I am thankful nobody has mentioned his singing. He's almost like Rainman, if you think about it. He has mythical abilities on the guitar but sings like he's farting through a clarinet.
