yes '87 was John's except Here I Go Again wich were recorded by Vandenberg because John was kicked out of the band.

same here, Blue Murder's first album has almost the same tone, but little better IMO. Both these albums are on my top 10 forever.

            KNIGHTS OF COLOMBUS!!!!!!

Look at all these awesome responses ...I wasn't expecting that...wow!

Shawn...and the rest of the gang here...Metamorphisis Vivladi's Four Seasons is a MUST if your into classical..or neo classical shred...it really is amazing...it's not really shred...it is Vivaldi...true to form!

secondly another great player that put out an amazing classical release is Alex Masi..."In the name of Bach"..which to me seems more of a tribute to Uli than Bach...well that's how it comes off to me..

James Byrd is another monster...and Uli disciple...

another TRUE Uli Disciple is fellow country man...ahhhhhhhhh damn I forgot his name off hand...but he's in the AOR / Metal band Fiar Warning...no it is NOT a Van Halen Tribute band...Fair Warning has about five albums out and the guy uses the same kind of Geetar as Uli,,,except without that big O ' blue Jewel..he's not as good as Uli but he tries..probably needs that blue jewel..

I know when I listen to Uli ...my Jewels turn blue..

BTW...Just a tidbit for ya..The Painting that is on Uli's first 1978 solo album "Eartquake"...is titled "Rising Force"...done by Uli's woman at the time.."Monica"..yep.."Rising Force"..hmmmmmm..

The only shredder out there that continued to give Uli praise thru his career was Marty Friedman..you can hear alot of Uli in Marty's playing sometimes..and that's a good thing.

another amazing old bastage that never get's mention is Frank Marino...I'm SURE Wylde and Sykes listened to a lot od Frank Marino...it's blatant..and that's a good thing!

              Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Metamorphisis is awesome. By far the best 'neo-classical shred with orchestra' project.

Marino's an amazing guitarist, as well, and he always seems to come up in your threads, Bill! Interestingly, he toured the UK with Uli a couple of years ago in some classic rock package tour deal, along with Glenn Hughes, Pat Travers, and some other folks. Marino and Uli hit it off pretty well, and Marino ended up producing an album by Uli's wife. However, while Marino says he admires Uli's playing, he's not really fond of classical music or neo-classical type playing, so I wouldn't look for a collaboration anytime soon...too bad, they could do quite an album of Hendrix covers between them!

wow really Profusion...Man that is weird...

I always thought it would be PERFECT to see those two dude together..

But their styles are really apples and Oranges...but both amazing players..one of my two very faves of all time..

I can't think of many other players , no matter how great ..I can't hold them in the same regard as these two guys..they were with me from the start...well they were the reason why I did start ..along with Eddie of course...but unlike Uli and Frank...Ed...well he's in a bad place right now...and It doesn't look very promising ..unfortunately.

                  Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Yeah, it's funny how some guys really get better with age, but others flame out hard. Both Marino and Uli have improved their art. Uli's moved into another zone from the rest of us mere mortals, and Marino's playing has matured a lot, as I'm sure you've heard on the "Real Live" album.

On a similar theme, I've been really inspired lately by listening to Glenn Hughes. He conquered his horrible addictions a little over 10 years ago, and he's been incredibly prolific since. His singing and bass-playing are way better than back in his Deep Purple days, and he has put out something like 10 or 11 albums just in this decade, counting his solo albums and various collaborations. And every single one of them is good or great. He's got an album with Tony Iommi coming out in July that I'm really looking forward to.

With EVH, I just get the feeling that the muse left him a long time ago. Maybe he really does have all of those songs just waiting for vocals, like he claims, but I somehow doubt it. I don't think he gives a shit anymore, and it shows.

Pro-fusion dude...Glen Hughes sure gets around..I got him on the Voodoo Hill stuff with Dario Mollo...with tons of his solo stuff...

yeah...I was a huge Van Halen fanatic...my post on the Dirty Movies thread should show that...but I gave up long ago waiting for him to get off his ass...and when he did get off his ass...he put out that horrid VHIII...that was the day I gave up on EVH...well if he don't care ...then why should I..and that is going on eight years ago..waiting for him is like waiting for the second coming...ain't gonna happen.

There is players ions above him now..like Uli and Marino...

and a slew of new heroes like Olaf Lenk and Magnus Carlsson and my man Jeff Loomis..Eddie couldn't touch them on his best day...he's pathetic now....what a shame...ahhh fuggem

Oh now Bill, be nice. Don't let Eddie's recent work change your perception of his older stuff. Listen to the first four albums and you'll be ok.

The man is a mega rich, living legend and a national treasure - if he wants to sleep until he dies, it's ok with me. I can always put on Fair Warning and pretend it happening right now.

That little dick in Shadows Fall is becoming quite a player too - Jon something. He's got a really nice touch.

                          Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Too bad that there are no new guitar-gods. Loomis, Cooley etc. are awsome but they aren't GODs, a true innovators like Eddie, Yngwie etc. were, I think it's because no one can't pull off something really unique anymore, almost everything is done.

About Uli, Friedman and Becker are both huge fan of his and give props to him. Friedman is also a huge Marino fan. Marty's favourite players are unknown for most of the people, wich is cool IMO.

One man who gets credit all the time is Jeff Beck, almost every player is fan of his music, haven't heard anyone talking sh1t about Beck. I think it is great because Jeff is my alltime favourite and he always does something new and inspireing. His not a fast axman or great songwriter but his cool ideas and his weird playing style made him the first true instrumental guitar player who got a huge recognition.

I definitely put Beck in the same category as Uli Roth--guys who seem to 'live' their guitars, rather than play them. I'm always amazed at how Beck gets such a range of sounds and styles out of a simple strat/amplifier setup.

Its amazing to see Beck play with his fingers and gets the tones that he does...that always suprised me..

Yeah Jimmy I know what you mean man...But whenm I listen to the early VH...which I haven't because I had to play all that material for so long ...it just burned me out..but that playing was the shit back 25 years ago....but since...kids just took the ball and ran with it...and just kept running all these years...while Ed lays on the couch with his hands in his pants ...smoking three packs of cigerettes until he smokes himself to death...man he looks like hell...he talks like a Jerry's kid...and plays like one too now...it's sad to see the man I idolized look , act and play like that..I'm not only sad ...but mad..

Zakk said the same thing...he said about Dime's funeral that he lost two guitar heroes..Dime and Ed...and I know what he means..

                                Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Here's the deal...My wife and I been together for over twenty years now...I'm an avid collector of metal and shred and guitars and amps and yada yada...I have it all...she has heard it , and knows it all as well...just for being with me..

well anyway...she's heard me play geetar and bass this whole time...talk geetar and bass this whole time...talking and listening to anyone that is anything on geetar and bass..thru all these years

the ONLY one that give's her chills..is Uli...not Randy , Not Vai , Not Satch , Not Ynwie..he gives he a headache..nobody comes close In her opinion..

and after listening to all of 'em...Uli is THE man...

he has the articualtion of Eric Johnson , musical theories of Ynwie and Vai put together ...I was listening to Metamorphasis and I can't think of any other human hands that could pull this off...it is quite unbelievable..

I know Tha Century Media ( 1800-250-4600) has this stuff in stock...for about 12 bucks a pop...I highly recommend to pick up "Metamorphisis" and "Transcensing Sky Guitar"...he also has a double live "Legends of Rock" with Michael Scenker and Jack Bruce..Uli and Michael are trading licks and having a good time...a very cool listen indeed.

The guys in Shadow Fall are good...but not awesome...I wouldn't be "shy" at all to shred with the dude myself...I hung out with those fuckers for hours after hours at my friend's bar here in Cleveland..a few years back...nice dudes.

I'd feel like a 'tard trying to "jam" with the likes of Uli..Marino ..or Beck for that matter..

I say the metal players out ther that rule..are well , there is a whole bunch ..remember my list I posted...that covered it all..

but Roy Z , Ralph Santolla , Magnus Carlsson , Olaf Lenk are a good start ...anyone of you guys here should be familiar with these guys...if not I will be more than glad to point you in the right direction..
