Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

didn't Satch, Uli and Schenker were in G3 once, man I would have loved to see that one.

BTW. I just got Metamorphasis, it kicks ass, Vivaldi all the way.

Roy Z is awsome player too, he did a good job with british Vocal Gods.

Yes ..yes...I mentioned that earlier...I met Joe before that happend and he told me he wanted to get Uli on the G3..

Joe has my police badge...he used to put it on his guitar strap at times...if you ever see a badge ...that is mine.

I NEED to see that ...I wish there was something on tape..

My good JCF friend Rich (lerxscat) sent me a copy of a old Scorpions promo...with Uli...for Taken By force..and then there is a 1985 concert of Uli..

the picture is kind of fuzzy...but me and the wife had to watch that at least ten times already..and she hates watching music videos and concerts...

Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Yes, Uli is Godlike in his playing. John, Scorpions startyed in 1969 with Lonesome Crow,
but Uli didn't join until Fly To The Rainbow.
I don't recall the year of that, but very eary 70s. The first album I heard with him though was In Trance. I couldn't believe it back in 1975! Then came Virgin Killer and Taken By Force, man! Incredible!

I was pretty heartbroken when Lovedrive came out and Ulrich Roth was gone. It took awhile to like Matthias Jabs because he replaced Roth. I guess my favorite Electric Sun is Firewind. His playing is always beyond reproach, but I dug the songs on Firewind just as muc qas his playing. He is kind of esoteric with most of his material so you can't listen to it thinking you're gonna hear
straight metal rock. He's far beyond that.

Bill, I reversed the order on that tape for you. The Scorpions stuff is actually at the end of my tape, but it's slightly better quality than the concert. The concert is REAL
fuzzy, Bill was being kind. BUT you can hear
Uli screaming on guitar, and it's sentimental for me because I was at the show, May 14, 1985
at Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach, CA. That was Uli's FIRST performance in the USA! I had great memories of that show, then one day many years later I got a wild hair to do a Uli Roth
search on Ebay, and it popped up, listing the date and place of the show! It also mentioned the Scorpions promo, and AFAIK there's no other video footage of Uli with Scorpions, so I had to have it! Fuzzy or not, I'm very glad
I came upon it, and what are the odds of me just happening to search for it right then? I was lucky.

Yeah, Uli still gives me shivers. When Yngwie
came out, I was amazed, but was saying "He's stealing Uli Roth's credit! Uli did this stuff 10 years earlier!" Well, Bach in his time was considered a flash in the pan, so Uli
is in good company. Bach was considered a virtuoso keyboardist, but "frivolous" as a composer by his peers. The joke's on them.
Ron is the MAN!!!!

Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Uli's vibrato sounds exactly like violin player's one, but then again Uli plays violin too.
I've never been a huge fan of neo-calssical shred, there are only few players who I enjoy, and Uli is one of them along with Yngwie, Vinnie Moore and Tony McAlpine, that's it. I love Paul Gilbert, but I don't concider him as a neo-calssical player altho he hass done some of that sh1t.
All the other players like Bellas etc. are just plain booring IMO.

Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Oh yes. Man oh man. I haven't heard "Firewind", "Electric Sun" or "Beyond Astral Skies" in years because I left my vinyl back in the UK in '96. However, this thread has lead me to just pick up a Strat and play a very loud version of the Hendrixy bit at the end of "Fly to the Rainbow" from Tokyo Tapes

The man was playing balls-breaking shred guitar with passion and feel back in '73 with The Scorpions. Mna, the hours I spent learning the intro to "Sails of Charon" (We didn't have tab back in those days kiddies!). IIRC he started playing his Sky guitar (the seven string thirty fret monster) back in '84 with "Beyond The Astral Skies".

Flashback to '82. Strat with a big headstock, Colorsound wah half-cocked, cranked 50 Watt Marshall and a band to play Scorps/UFO covers with... (Sighs)

All this Uli talk got me trying to find some of his solo music but no luck so far. However I kinda dig The Scorpions now. Him and Schenker are pretty damn good.

Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Uli has a 3cd release of his solo stuff..cannot recall the label but you can pick it up on eBay. I think I paid like 20-25 for my set. I have his stuff on vinyl too (permanently 'borrowed' it from from my former drum mate)

I recall hearing some of Uli's concepts being used by Marty Freidman during Megadeth..he's obviously influenced a ton of players. 'Catch your train', 'Backstage Queen' and 'Sails of Charon' really floored me in the 70's & 80's about as much as Hendrix probably did with older players with 'Purple Haze' back in the sixties. Uli and Marino were like the offshoot spouted influences with their own thing happening.

Rich, I'll trade you a 45 min performance of Frank Marino on Don Kirschners Rock Concert in '75 for a copy of that Uli tape. If your interested, PM me.

Btw...I liked Lovedrive, but only because of Michael.
Its been in my car deck over the past month and I still am hitting rewind and panning off to side sometimes. Another piece of Meat, Coast to Coast, Loving you Sunday Morning all has some killer playing and the guitar tone is the shit!
Classic Marshall. Jabs did kinda shine on 'Is there anybody There?' but when Blackout hit, that just smoked taking the Scorps to a whole 'nother level. If there is one saving grace about the Scorps not having Uli is that he no longer was singing, but I can stomach Uli's vocals just for the guitar playing.

Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Been a Uli Roth fan since the late '70's, the man is still playing at a high level when others his age are kicking back and playing the same old shit.

BTW, the guitarist for Fair Warning is Helge Engelke, and he is VERY Uli-like, in fact he played with Uli on that orchestra concert he did in the early 90's.

It is so cool hearing how many people love Uli.
He may be the first guitarist that nobody on the JCF has flamed.
I really need to get another ULI IS GOD shirt.

The best of Scorps vol 1, & vol 2 has most of the highlights of Uli's work from V Killers and the previous studio releases, you can buy it for cheap on ebay or half.com..but Tokyo tapes is great just to hear him live.

Re: ULI ROTH WORSHIP

Man I just listened to Metamorphosis again...I put in on at night before beddy bye time.
I must proclaim that ULI is the only one that can evoke an "emotion" out of me...he is the only one that can give me goosebumps or make me feel I want to cry...and I'm a heartless beast of a man..

Yes that Fair warning player is a major Uli Disciple...and it shows...is Helge Englelke...I have two Fair Warning cds..."Go" and "4"...a little light for my taste musically ..like a cross between Journey and latter Rainbow..but the guitars are awesome..

Yes the painting of the Earthquake album is titled.."Rising Force"...I thought that was pretty funny when I seen that years ago..

Malmsteen dresses like Ritchie Blackmoore and plays like Uli...or tries to...he maybe a little more "firey"...but that doesn't mean a thing without the articulation and feel that Uli posseses...besides, Uli can be VERY firey and it is more convincing when he does it..because he makes every note count...

I like when Yngwie tried to cover Sails of Charon and totally over-played and butchered it....that is NOT the feeling of that song...Testament / James Murphy did a better job...because Murphy did his homework and keepsa it true to form..that track is on Testament's..best of cd..

Uli does have that kind of articualtion of Gilbert , Eric Johnson , and Vinnie Moore..and has the fire of Gary Moore..and beyond..like a violin player!!!

I think Uli is overall the best player in the world...but that is MY opinion and I'm sticking to it..

later Guys...have a great weekend...I'll be a bit busy this weekend and won't be around much..

Listen a lot of Uli's stuff should be availuable at Century Media ..try www.centurymedia.com or call 1-800-250-4600 to see if they have this stuff in stock and put it on your credit card like I do every month..I strongly recommend "Metamorphosis Viavldis four season" or "Transcending sky guitar" double likve ...each release is only 12 or 13 bucks...and if you order 100 buck or more like I do..shipping is free..

also try The end records.....shipping is free there no matter what size order...and prices are comparible...

Bye..
