Mick wrote some very cool riffs, yes indeed. Dr. Feelgood, Kickstart My Heart, Piece of Your Action, Looks that Kill, etc., etc. Some cool chord based stuff, which I think makes a song. But I agree with Bill, his solos SUCK ASS and are generally painful to listen to. Watch his "bluesy" section in that solo video. It sucks. I am a blues nut, I know good blues when I hear it...and I know shit. That was shit.
Bill, when Hendrix was alive, he was a shredder. The level of speed and technique just wasn't developed at that point. Guys like Lee were fast, shit..I think Lee may have been known as "The Fastest Guitarist in the World", and if you compared him to a modern shredder he would sound like a sloppy mess. Now, I am sure that there were classical guys that could play damn fast back then, and flamenco guys as well. However, they generally weren't strapping on strats and standing in front of a stack of Marshalls!!!
