I'm diggin this new record. It's kinda like a more streamlined version of the first Mr. Bungle album. There's not enough lyrics, so the vox get a bit repetitive, and the run time is only like 40 minutes. But the bizarre riffage makes up for it, IMO.

Re: and for you system of a down fans

I picked up their new album "Mezmerize" last week.
I am TOTALLY digging it, tracks 6 and 7 are my favorite.

I've always been a fan of their rhythm and riffing as it is so unique. And I really enjoy how Daron and Serj go back and forth on the vocals, too funny!
"Toxicity" I can't listen to enough, and I was hoping this new album would be different but just as enjoyable.
Yeah, they definitely delivered IMO. I look like a complete nut in my car singing along.

Though I do agree with you Necro, lyrics are rather short.
Their little live show was too short as well, but it was cool. They are hilarious to watch, especially Daron.

Where in the HELL did that come from..

But since we're not making sense here...so it seems.

New SOAD is pretty good. Yeah, reminds me a lot of Mr Bungle. If you're into this kind of stuff, Carnival of Coal is kind of Bungle-ish, but more brutal

BillZ... my two favorite tracks on this album are titled:

6. This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song
7. Violent Pornography

I don't condone cocaine or violent porn (and in the song, SOAD is talking about the plethora of shit on TV today); but these two songs rock!

Re: and for you system of a down fans

I caught the half hour show on MTV, and Daron's backup vocals made me want to rip out his still beating heart and toss it into the audience. He was flat a good part of them time, and several times he was so off that it threw Serj off. The music was killer, though.

Yep, sounds 'bout right.

Maybe I'm harsh on backup vox, but I think they either need to be dead on, or cut them out entirely. I hate it when someone who is great on their instrument decides that they just have to open their mouth and add something, and it turns out to be horrible. I honestly was hoping for Serj to trip over Daron's mic cable, popping it out of the back of the mic.

Re: and for you system of a down fans

So I tried to ignore SOAD, cause I thought it was a pop sensationalist joke. I mean I really can't tell if it's David Byrne's retarded half brother in a cool metal band having spasms on stage or what.

It seemed like a weak studio joke that I didn't get.

But I have to say, I enjoy some of it now, I was hearing some guitar I liked and even some witty social commentary in the lyrics I could understand.

I don't know if I'd ever buy an album of theirs, but I don't hate it anymore.
