His vibrato makes me want to hurl...

That really was pretty generic AND bad at the same time..Certainly he must have played better than that in Korn, didn't he?

As a tech I hung out a few times with Dime, since I worked for Ace and was a huge VH fan, and dug Dime, we exchanged the "Rolling of the eyes" a few times during the opening acts...I won't tell you who we were cruming on. I'm sure Dime is too busy jaming with Randy, and eating my Mom's Meatloaf (That I miss as much as her) to see this, but I'm sure he'd appreciated the effort, I'm sure he pratciced for weeks...Uh that kinda makes it worse..I'll shut up now.

He used so many effects/loops and distortion in Korn that you could hardly even tell it was a guitar that he was playing most of the time.

His heart was in the right place, but it came out boring. However, I was quite surprised when he did David Gilmour's solo when Korn covered "Another Brick In The Wall Part II". Not exactly perfect, but it was nice for a change seeing him play a lead.

                      Re: Cool Doubleneck. Embarrasing Playing.

I remember reading a Vai / Malmsteen interview where Steve was talking about meeting Korn. For the life of me, I can't find the full transcript, but I found an excerpt of the relevant parts:

Vai: [...] Also, I met KORN the other day - Munky and Head.

                      Yngwie: Huh?

Vai: Those are the guitarists' names! Munky and Head. They play 7-string guitars tuned to A with .072 strings. When I told them to jam together, they said they didn't know how. They couldn't jam and they didn't know any scales. But when they started playing it was great. Or let's say it was interesting. It wasn't Yngwie, SRV or Jimi.

We should post a sticky with links to that and the Fred Durst Video.

well, I've never been a fan of Korn, so I guess I can say Brians or Munky playing never really got my attention. The Wall solo remake sounded just as stiff IMO....
but regardless, I have no whose idea it was to use a doubleneck for this or why it was there unless it served a purpose later during a different segment. I know I wouldn't feel comfortable playing it for that little ditty.

Good intent but I would say this is rather impromtu with not a great deal of emphasis on ..ahh, lets say..marketability.

I thought it was rather impromptu with not a great deal of emphasis on talent. Or tone. Or phrasing. Or creativity.

I just get a kick out of thinking about uber-Christians saying Dimebag.

well probably more than a few would recognize Darrell Abbott too. Would you rather have them say "how about that dude that got wasted on stage by that other deranged metal listener?" I'm sure that happens as well. If they know him as Dime, I would say that is how Dime wanted to be remembered.

The whole thing was a waste. If this guy wants to give a little tribute, thats his choice. None of the rest of us as Christians or the people at these events are going to say.. "naw, better not cause you kinda are lacking in skill, talent.. you suck etc.."

There are some very talented christian oriented artists.. Impellitteri comes to mind. Just because a person gives himself to God doesn't mean we're all without talent or will, or strength.
