Re: What amp does Manson use on Beautiful People?

I'd consider them thrash. Lyrically, some of their stuff could be construed as death metal, but they're not really a death metal band. They definitely paved the way for heavier bands with the sheer speed and brutality of the Reign In Blood album, that's for sure.

never been a death metal fan, so i don't listen to slayer and the like. not putting it down, it's just not something i ever got into. but i've heard kerry's work on the beastie boys' licensed to ill records. if that's how he normally solos, then i'd say he the cc deville of death metal!

Ther you go Sully dragging CC into another rant. CC Deville rips. He may be an ass but he still rips. Try the solo for Talk Dirty to Me for instance. It seems simple... right?
Nope. It's as cool as hell to play and pretty challenging. To me, he has the same style as Steve Stevens but with a totally different guitar tone. Stevens is processed and scooped. Deville is straight up Marshall with a touch of reverb. BTW.... is John Lowery related to Clint Lowery formerly from Sevendust? If so, I have one of his PRS's. I believe that John5 played a Triple X.

I have never been a Slayer fan at all...

When I thought of Kerry King's guitar prowness, I couldn't get past the solo on "Fight For Your Right to Party"...Ugh

Anyways, I was reading a Dimebag interview where he said Pantera asked Kerry to jam over one of their tunes...He said they literally caught Kerry walking off-stage at a Slayer show and pushed him into a backroom somewhere at the venue and pressed "record" and let Kerry rip...It was really a pretty cool solo! I was pretty surprised it came out of Kerry, but then again, I knew little-to-nothing about him...

If I remember right, I think the song was "God-Damn Electric" (It also makes reference to Slayer in that tune!)

jgcable, you may remember that i voted cc's TDTM solo as the best solo of the 80s. i like cc, actually; if you can hum a solo, it's a good one, imo. he had a lot of those.

I'll have to disagree with you all. Kerry King is a great player. He sounds like no one else out there. Thats way better than being another EVH clone.................

I remember watching poisen story tellers and was blown away by CC's playing in a live situation. He would add alot of little soloing riffs between chords like Randy Rhoads would do and just came so natural to CC, you could tell he wasnt forcing it.

Now back to the subject. I believe Zim Zum was the official guitarist for the tour, and on that album and Twiggy played most of guitar as well as manson himself with Zim playing and i think he said trent in the interview.

I believe back on that tour if i remember right they were using JMP-1's, with power amps, i know they were definitly using marshalls. I saw them on ozzfest and i pretty much remember seeing JMP-1's because i looked on purpose because i thought the guitar tone was so crushing. Read this interview where zim Zum says that he used Marshall Pre-amps with marshall power amps.

On a side note, my favorite manson album is Portrait of an American Family and in concert Manson refuses to play any of those songs, i think he just really hates the old guitarist and refuses to give him royalties by playing the songs live.

yeah, i saw them on that tour, before the album came out. they were opening up for nin, and man, what a show that was. i do believe that he's not a fan of their first guitarist, daisy berkowitz, but i'll have to check out my live disc of theirs to see if there's any poaaf songs on there. you can't beat a song title like cake and sodomy! EDIT: perhaps that's a recent policy, as the live disc has get your gunn and lunchbox on it.

i'm pretty sure that you're right that zim zum didn't play on the antichrist record, and that twiggy and manson did most of the guitar work. the most recent manson disc is pretty damn good as well; it's more solid of an album than some of the previous ones.

Kerry has improved in leaps and bounds over the years, especially since the Beastie Boys thing. Sure, a lot of his soloing leans heavily on chromatic chaos, and trem divebombs, but if you were familiar with all of Slayers more recent stuff, you'd see how good he really is. He pulls off some pretty melodic stuff. He'll never be Dime, but damn, he's good at what he does.

I was gonna say, I thought Twiggy Ramirez played guitar on that song, and I think he is pretty good. He has a really cool white San Dimas-era Jackson Rhoads with gold hardware and a Kahler. I think for amps he probably used Dual/Triple Recs (two channel) or Marshalls or something, which is what a lot of guys used back then.

John 5 is a good player, very unique style.

Kerry King blows, I've never heard any melody or finger vibrato from him, only random notes and whammy bar wanking.
