Terry Bozzio & Billy Sheehan

Anyone got their album "Nine Short Films" I know it is made in 2002 but I still listen to it a lot.
This cd sounds so unique and fresh not to mention the supreme musicianship by my fav. drummer Bozzio and my fav. bass player Sheehan. I strongly reccomend it to those who are interested in very unconventional music.
But I gotta warn those who like straight ahead rock'n'roll or metal, this is WEIRD shit. Not a concert or party music, not the music you listen in your car.

I have never heard the CD, but am not much into "unconventional music" as you say.....that being said, I should at least give it a listen.


But i do agree....Bozzio is the best drummer on the planet.
I have really enjoyed watching him play w/Beck when he tours.

Bozzio is da BOMB!
I went to couple of his drum clinic and MAN!
He is probably the best drummer out there these days.

Myron Grummbacher. He used to drum for Rick Derringer. Geraldo was the rhythm guitarist. They went ahead and formed the Pat Benatar band.

Mangini is the fastest dude on earth, also he is one of the best polyrhythmic players, sick sick sick rhythms, I think he is called the Polyrhythm King, and his biggest influence (according to one interwiev) is Jenny McCarthy [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
When you played with him did he knew all those sick physic and mathematical stuff then? What did he listened to, Neal Peart and Vinnie Colaiuta?

Mike is awsome but Bozzio is LEGEND, he has a very unique style, he plays melodys with drums, yes that's right, and he has more drums and cymbals on his kit than Portnoy.

Bozzio is nr.1 in my book, Mangini is 2.

Ya when I played with Mike he was just a younger version of what he is today. Incredibly methodical, into all of that mathematical stuff as well. Peart was his main man back then, I've got to say, he was a blast to play with. We did all originals when we played together, and we always let him play his ass off. My brother was our bass player and the 2 of them would jam endlessly to make sure they were tight on every kick in every song.

I have a half hour video from 1981, we look like a bunch of little kids. (My wife laughs her ass off everytime she she sees it. I've got that Alex Lifeson silk robe/shirt thing going on and I weight about 160 lbs)[img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img](I'm six foot 200 now) I know I have audio cassettes somewhere in my moms house I'll have to hunt them down and get them transfered to Disk. A buddy of mine does have a casstte of us doing Jeff Becks "Scatterbrain" I'll see if I can grab that from him.

you guys ever see that video of bozzio playing to a sold out theatre by himself? i forgot which one it was , but the crowd was there to see him play without a band. pretty sick if you can handle just drums for an hour and a half. you gotta be a special type of person for that.

Bozzio takes drumming way out there...which is nice.

Virgil Donati is the most technically impressive drummer I've ever seen. His solo piece in the Planet X show I saw was beyond belief--I can't even describe it adequately.

Donati is also monster player, he as an amazing cordination, that solo on Vai's London live album is badass.
Virgil has the most complex double bass patterns, he started using some tricks that no one else didn't have played before. But his is primaly a fusion player with a lot of power, he has definetly learned a lot from Dave Weckl, and he uses standard grip too.

But when it comes to pure technique Mangini destroys ALL THE DRUMMERS. It is true. Didn't he played like 1200 hits in a minute. He is so fast that he can play only with his one hand and it still sounds like somone is playing with two hands.
Also I've heard that he can do some wery un-humanlike things. When he plays 4/4 pattern on snare with left hand then you can say any number to him (ex. 13) and he starts playing 13s to 4-ths with his right foot, then you say another number (ex.7) then he starts to play 7s to 4-ths with right hand and then you say again one number (ex. 22) and then he starts playing 22s to 4-ths with his left foot. Or something like that. This is what I call madness.
