• Def Leppard and Tesla Last nite-10th row

Chris and I went to the opening nite of the tour here in Tampa. I dont write for the Tribune, so I will do a quick rundown. Half the place had cameras, I should have brought one.

Number one, it was LOUD like fucker. Great mix though, so that helped.

Tesla was killer, singer hasnt missed a step. Seriously. they were always way cool, and that hasnt changed. Little suzie, comin at ya live, signs, modern day cowboy, etc....Playing was great, saw an old eerie dess Sl-2. Amps were H and K all lit up like a bug trap and a matchless, dc30 I think.

Def Leppard, also sounded great, almost too good. A lot of processing going on there for sure. Joe Elliot cant hit the high stuff anymore, so he just skips it, or does the falsetto thing. Vivian Campbell, just awesome. Played a killer darkburst LP (Must have one......) all nite. Sort of played reserved though, I guess they dont want him blowing Phil off the stage...

On to Phil. Sounded like Phil, played like Phil, probably because he is Phil. Still has his chops, pretty much nailed his solos. But check this out..One of his guitars, in addition to the awesome new purple PC1 with the strat headstock you saw in the pic, was a VERY cool looking one from that company Lloyd started, I think they are call san dimas guitar company. I had seen the headstock before and Chris noticed it. It had a sweet graphic, sort of like an exploding british flag, very cool.

Couldnt see any amps for them. I dont know what Phil plays amp-wise,(fill me in) but he had non-logo'd stacks behind him. His tone was ok, just sounded like all the records he has made. Tesla had a real earthy, great tone to them. It just sounded more real and WAY more present.

Did I mention how freakin loud it was? Go see it, definitely worth the dime. About 5 more screwdrivers, and I might have started singing along to the more campy Def Leppard songs....Maybe hold up my lighter..

You get the picture.

Definitely looking forward to Priest and Queensryche next week.

Sounds like a good show, I would be tempted to leave after Tesla. Did they play "Song and Emotion"? That was dedicated to Steve, if I am correct.

Tesla rocks, Def Leppard...well, they are Def Leppard...."pour some sugar on me...yeah!!"

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

I hate to bad mouth a band that I grew up listening to, but Def Leppard lost the heart of the band when they lost Steve. I just haven't been into much of anything they've done since then. Vivian will never be one of the Terror Twins.

Last i knew Def used JMP-1's with either the 9100's or 9200's.

I loved Tesla growing up and i also enjoyed Def so maybe i will go check the show when it comes to this area.

Def Leppard is great live. Almost at the level of Boston live. They owe alot to Mutt.
Tesla rips.
Judas Priest hasn't missed a beat. Halford is 100% killer. Glenn nailed EVERYTHING. Acoustic Diamonds and Rust is worth the price of admission alone.

It's not that they werent great, but it just sounded like a CD played REALLY loud. And during some of the singing, you could hear like 10 harmonies going on. Just a bit processed for my liking. Now I saw them in 88 and 92, both great shows.

I remember seeing this line-up back on the Hysteria tour (Yeah, showing my age). Tesla was touring on Mechanical Ren. or Great Radio Controversy. Killer show, but Leppard was no match for Tesla in terms of musicianship. Tesla was probably my favorite band in the 80's. I've seen them nummerous times and they never let me down.

I wouldn't mind hearing "Modern Day Cowboy" at ear bleeding volume right now....

yep, Phil has used JMP-1's forever. When Leppard came thru here (Portland, OR) a few eeks ago Brian Adams was with them. I did not go.

It was the Mechanical Resonance tour for Tesla... I saw that tour too. Great show by both bands.

I saw Lep a few years ago and they were still great, IMO. I skipped them this tour since I'm going to a lot of other shows this summer.
