Re: Bring on the Flaming, why doesnt anyone like CC?

I've never flamed CC's playing - I've never been able to sit through a Poison song long enough to hear any of it. Someone once loaned me one of their albums (their 1st or 2nd, not sure), telling me that it was the release of the year and I was going to love it. So, putting any personal biases aside for 45 minutes, I sat through the album. And then promptly returned it to the guy that loaned it to me. I think I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to music, but I just could not stand that band. The singer was awful, the bass playing overly simplistic and the songs weak, rudimentary & hackneyed. But apart from that, they seemed alright

Thank you G for saying in a serious manner what I think..

I saw Poison...five times live...FIVE times...because they opened for everyone I wanted to see...

I never seen a band more live than Poison...I hated every second of it then...and I think they are no less than a bad joke now..

I mean , I can't see Joe Dirt liking this crap...

(Dons protective headgear) I always liked ol' CC, he's got a cool "Don't give a shit" vibe to his playing. There's some pretty good chops in there somewhere as well.
Not to mention all them custom BCs!
Come to think of it, he also had the first HotWheels flames Strathead that I ever saw...

he dosent give a shit because he sucks so bad he knows it dosent matter - seriously, i always thought that poison was the primary reason that "rock died". when those assholes came out i knew something bad was gonna happen, and i was right. to me , everything they did was contrived. sorta like a manufactured back street boys with a rock slant. between them and warrant, who actually had a worse singer, we all paid the price.

What's wrong about chicks doing music? Poison was a chick band, right? A couple of them were pretty hot...

Re: Bring on the Flaming, why doesnt anyone like C

Yup, back when Poison happened, I do remember calling them "fag rock" (I never have and I never will call them "metal"). I'm sure CC was a good player, but I just couldn't stand their music. I hated the band, and I hated their songs, so naturally I was totally disinterested in their guitarist - however good he may have been.

Re: Bring on the Flaming, why doesnt anyone like C

Oh, come on C.C. ain't all that bad. He is the king of the pentatonic!! He also went to Juliard and was trained by Perlman. He wrote some memorable riffs, and he is credited with some of the worst guitar solos of all time. Whatever, says I...I will take C.C.'s skill any day.

Look, you can't blame the death of '80s hair metal on Poison. There were bands that made Poison look like Maiden...like Trixter, for example. Poison was weak, and was extreme glam metal..but they were popular and made a killing. I too saw them, because they opened for DLR. They sucked, yes, but I would rather sit through a Poison show than sit through a Dave Matthews show. Hair Metal died because the market was totally saturated with it, and it just wasn't cool anymore. It had been building up steam for a decade and was ripe for a fall. Plus, I honestly think the high level of musicianship that was required to play in these bands discouraged enough aspiring musicians that the end result was a complete void of musicianship...enter Cobain.

At least C.C. could play a solo that included more than one FUCKING STRING!!!

I rest,

Mike
Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

i liked poison around their first and second records, and i liked 'em okay. cc was okay; like mick mars, he gets the job done. some may think that cc is better than mick, and who the hell knows, or cares, but i dunno, i never really had anything against him. i try not to base a guitarist's worth on amount of sweeps or 32nd notes per measure. I am with Bill. People say Nirvana killed metal and I disagree. Cookie cutter hair bands like Warrant, Poison, Trixter and all the others killed it. Really though it wasnt their fault the only reason why they were around is because corperate record money gave them a reason to exist.

no one killed metal, most of the people just needed something else.

hair metal killed itself, really, although, imo, nirvana certainly helped.

however, you can't lump poison, warrant, and trixter together; their carreer peaks weren't at the same times. poison came out in 86-87ish, warrant in 87-88, trixter was around 1990ish, i believe. poison and warrant (at least their first record) were better bands than what came after. i understand that mainly this is a "metal" board, and i'm sure most of you guys lump these bands together like i lump slayer in with death metal; i'm not a fan of it, so i'm in no real position to talk about it. however, glam bands, and hair metal was in fashion, so even if you weren't a fan, you couldn't really get away from it.

i'm not gonna sit here and preach the musical merit of poison and warrant, etc, because they are what they are: fun rock and roll, and that's it. you don't need to go to GIT to get into one of those bands. (that reminds me of all the ads i used to see for guitar players and the first thing you'd see in the ad would be "NO GIT FAGS!" )

however, poison and warrant weren't manufactured bands; these guys lived on the strip and busted their asses to get signed. NOT like how it is now, at all. anyway, i think i'll stop carrying the flag for hair metal for a little bit.

Why are some of you defending Poison? They're like a weaker version of Bon Jovi! The whole lot of those late 80s hair bands were nothing but the New Kids on the Block with loud guitars. Total formula, total cheese, and only teenage girls listened to it.

I rather have my own testicles served to me for breakfast than listen to a Poison album. Excuse me while I go purify myself with Vulgar Display of Power.
