I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I dig Sammy more than DLR. I'm not knocking DLR at all here, I just like Sammy era VH better than the DLR era. I've always been a Sammy fan and still listen to him quite a bit (Standing Hampton is a great album).

Sammy was always about the songs and it shows. Even EVH has said in interviews that DLR's lyrics were weak and usually didn't make much sense (see Me Wise Magic for an example). Listen to Judgement Day off the F.U.C.K. album, that's a great example of what Sammy brought to VH. I don't think EVH could have written a riff like that if DLR was still in the band.

I'm 36, I can remember hearing VHI for the first time and being blown away. I got hold of everything I could after that and was a bit disappointed. Of course there were some great songs on those albums, but I don't think they really did a great album again until 1984. When 5150 came out, I thought it was an incredible album. I was blown away. I played the tape I had until it wore out. I bought the video Live Without a Net. I thought it was incredible that VH now had a second wind.

Let me say again, I'm not knocking what DLR did at all. I just dig Sammy more. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I prefer Sammy also, but only becuase I was a Montrose fan long before that. Don't get me wrong though, DLR was a great front man. Each one contributed greatly to VH, in their own style.

My favorite VH with Dave was the first album, my favorite VH with Sammy was 5150 which also happens to be his first album with the group!

Yeah, I like VH songs where you could just concentrate on the music..and not have to think about the lyrics. The lyrics were fun and tongue in cheek with DLR...plus all of those fun ad-libs and mistakes that they left in. Most of them didn't make sense, but you could sing and speak along with them while you got hammered at a party...or while driving in your car.

The Sammy lyrics actually meant something, there was a message....I don't know if I need that. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Let's see....."I really like the way the line runs up the back of those stockings....and I've always liked those kind of high heels too".....

LSD and shrooms have very similar effects... I am one of the few that prefered LSD to Shrooms though but ither would do in a pinch

I always found shrooms to be a more mellow experience, with all of the benefits...like the visuals.

1984 was the last VH album as far as I'm concerned.

SamHalen is different altogether...some good songs, yeah Sam has more range than Dave but Dave is a better frontman. SamHalen sounds more like Sammy Hagar with a EVH wanabe on guitar [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

The couch can be a lonely place...
