I decided to pick this up. It's F'n brutal! I'm not really into the vocals, but the playing is awesome!

He does sound like the Anthrax guy when he sings for sure. Most of the vocal reminds me of the later Pantera stuff (FBD especially). The playing is tight. If you're into the metal thing, it's worth picking up.

I dig the music, but I'm not too keen on the vocals. Wish he would just sing more...

FYI 90% of those clean vocals are done by the Rhythm guitarist Matt Bachand. Good band, kinda got boring for me for a while, but I will listen to The War Within now to see how I like it now. Both very good guitar players for sure, no doubt about it though.

Re: Shadow\'s Fall The War Within

to be honest guys i thought the war within was a pretty lame album from these guys...especially considering their last two albums.

this band used to be really, really thrashy...and they were awesome back then. of one blood is a really fresh thrash album that just rocks. then the progressed to art of balance which showed a lot of growth for the band. still had a real raw, thrash sort of vibe, but they added a lot of elements...more complex song structure, more dynamics.

the war within just seems like a regression to me...the songs are pretty basic...they dropped the thrash element and just kind of pussed out...to my ears at least.

Yeah, that's one of the guitar players who sounds like Joey.

Great record. I listen to it all the time. What I really like is how they play a really amazing riff and then never go back to it, many bands could build whole records off the riffs in just the first track.

Shadow´s Fall is great... But for some reason I always think "Killswitch Engage" when I hear them

Gotsta agree. I wouldn't say pussed out, but I don't think it compared to Art of Balance. I don't really like the clean vocals on the new album. Hey could have sang more in tune on AoB, but I think I still liked that one better.

They've been on the same tour before. They toured with Cradle of Filth and Sworn Enemy on the Damnation Every Day Tour a few years ago. I didn't think KSE sounded anything like them, especially the clean vocals.

Re: Shadow\'s Fall The War Within

I saw Shadows Fall when they were touring with In Flames (or was it The Haunted?) a few years back, when Of One Blood was still their "new" album. Their performance really impressed me, so I bought a CD at the merch table and talked with them briefly. It ended up being one of those albums that I'd listen to once in a while, but not really a favorite.

Nothing they've done since then has impressed me much. They're great musicians, but I felt that Art of Balance sounded pieced together, and their then-new drummer didn't match the band's playing style. The vocals don't appeal to me much either, but that's not what I listen to metal for anyway.

At this point, their music just sounds too derivative to me. I'd rather listen to an old Metallica or Testament album than someone else play the tired, cliched old licks with a different style of vocals.
