perhaps, but the man is responsible for bringing randy, jake, and zakk to the masses. you may not like the guy, but you can't deny his influence (deserved or not) on rock.

just like lynch; his later playing isn't my taste, but i do not deny the fact that he inspired MANY people to play, and pretty much was THE guy for some time.

That's what attracts me to Lynch so much. His feel is incredible and his style so recognizable, different, yet always mindblowing and awesome to hear.

Here come's sacrilige.... (*ducks for barrage of arrows and stones*)

I like the solo Lynch did (he didn't do anything but the lead, unfortunatly) on his cover of Mr Crowley on Will Play For Food a lot better than Randy's one.

don't feel bad for saying that, you can't debate personal preference.

he's definitely recognizable and different, i'll give you that!

The only guitar player to ever overshadow Ozzy was Randy.

Jake: lots of running and spinning around. Likes to toss guitar around body.

Zakk: lots of running and hair flying headbanging. Likes to toss guitar around venue.

Personally I do think that Dokkens new axeman none other than Jon Levin would fit the bill perfectly. Kammo1

I've always loved Ozzy's band, but hated Ozzy. He goes from tolerable with Sabbath to totally annoying now. I won't deny what he has given us (some great musicans and Ozzfest), but he is way past his prime and very over rated.

Imho it's Sharon who's pushing him and whoring him out, she's the pimp in that house! Ozzy would have called it quits a long time ago, I think, if it were upto him, to relax a little and get a bit of well deserved rest on his old day.

Actually noodles i tend to disagree, he still puts on a good show! i have always like ozzy for his unique vocals, yeah he may not write his own music, but he is not the only one. Like people like Britney spears etc.. i consider ozzy a entertainer and not a musician. But i do agree he should probaly retire soon, and i am really getting sick of seeing black sabbath, i prefer when ozzy does his own thing on ozzfest.

As to Sharoon pushing him, i dont think so, maybe with the show yes, but not with touring. Ozzy has said many times in interviews, he tries to retire, but he just gets the itch and gets too bored and needs to get back on the road. Can you blame him, that has got to be one hell of a rush playing in front of so many people hearing them scream your name!

OH, I might have been misinformed then...! I thought Lynch only came in on the album in the leads.

Randy was a genius when it comes to compositions. But George had a way better tone, vibrato, technique, controll etc. I wouldn't imagine seeing "Gets Me Through" on the MTV where a guy with funny hair and a bengal superstrat plays some free time odd sounding solo showing off his vertical vibrato, whammy bar tricks and fast runs in harminic minor add5b scale. It would be cool tho. But then again maybe if George would have got the Ozzy gig there wouldn't be Lynch Mob wich was a GREAT band IMO.

At the time Randy's tone was like that because it was right before the big mod super gain crazy stage, i would have liked to see what would have happened if he lived and what he would have ended up using. Could you imagine today Randy playing through a bogner or a mesa? I think even if ozzy didnt fire lynch he might have stayed around for a year or two at the most with ozzy! It seems ozzy has tight control over the music even though he does not write it!

And shit yeah i agree, lynch mob ruled!!!!!

I agree that some of George's solos do sound a bit unmusical to my ears as well. "Into the Fire" is an example with that section where he is flying, then has a long bend, then flies, has a long bend. That is an odd solo. However, for the most part George is damn solid and I love his work. Just download "Heaven Sent" and "Just Walk Away" and I think it will give you both sides of GL's ability with Dokken. A bunch of rippers and a slow, soaked with delay emotional solo. Those are two of my all time favorite GL solos and I am sure you are familiar with them.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

i'm familiar with those tunes, i do remember buying back for the attack and liking some of it. a few of my friends were also way into dokken, so i heard a lot of that, for sure. i was also learning more of what i liked at that time, too, and george wasn't really it for me anymore. i dug his guitars, and thought he had a cool presence, though.
