After hearing Tony Iommi's new album I have a pretty good idea who Ozzy would record with next ... *if* he's got two functioning brain cells left to rub together that is.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, except then we'd have to listen to Ozzy screech over all that great music... Tony and Geezer are doing a joint solo tour later this year, and I'm really excited about that.

Yeah but his live sounds sucks, last year on ozzfest i couldnt make it past 3 songs, just high pitched crappy ass tone! Made me think i never want a laney...

[/ QUOTE ]

Totally disagree. I've seen Iommi live a number of times (including last year), and I've always thought his live tone was the best. True, he favors a brighter lead sound than many, but that's just his own tone--and has been since the late '70s.

[/ QUOTE ]

I found it very ice picky and very thin, i didnt know many people that appreciated his tone all that much. You ask me Priest blew them off the stage last year!

Does Ozzy even need a new guitarist?

Zakk seems happy with BLS and Ozzy's with Sabbath. I think they should just leave it at that. Does the world need another Ozzy album and tour?

Say what you like about Zakk's ability and persona but if anyone was to take over from him they'd have a pretty massive pair of boots to fill.

I once tried about a Laney combo amp and it sounded horrible to me. I tried it because Opeth use Laneys but I couldn't get any crunch or gain out of it.

However, it's important to remember I know nothing about amps and I didn't really know anything about that amp! I guess that particular one just wasn't made for metal.

I love Opeth's tone so it's obviously possible to get a great sound out of Laneys. If you know what you're doing!

This guy tried out for Ozzy back in the day, and has done stuff with Geezer. Here is a clip of him and Zakk talking about it.

Whats that new song I heard by Ozzy called "Mississippi Queen"? That certainly wasn't Zakk. If anyone you have Myspace, check out Ozzy's page, the song is one of the downloadable Mp3's...

Jumping in a little late here George Lynch is one of my favorite players. I have tried to emulate his style and incorporate it into my own on many levels (George and Glen Tipton )

I have to agree with Sully that George would not do justice to Randy's solos. What always pissed me off when I would see Dokken or Lynch Mob live is that George can't even play his own solos live. He always played something kind of close and then he improvises. I've read interviews with him where he's said it's just hard for him to play the same leads twice.

Honestly... That's why I love seeing him (or anyone) live. It's always new and fresh. With the improvization, sometimes it's hit, sometimes it's miss, but it's always unexpected.

I dig the improv jams session type thing as well.

When a guitar player changes the solo to a song that you know and are really into, it's kind of like the singer changing the lyrics. IMHO

+1 I always hated it when a band sounded like their CD on 11. When I saw Megadeth last year, Glen Drover sounded like a robot playing Marty's and Chris' leads. Yawn...

Re: Is Ozzy dropping Zakk?

Personally, I loathe Ozzy's voice and persona. On the other hand, he has yet to pick a bad guitarist. I really liked the earlier, pre BLS Zakk. He seems to have lost his way, though. Jake is great, but he doesn't belong in Ozzy's band anymore. At this point I think it may be for the best of Ozzy sticks with Black Sabbath--then I can ignore him.

I hate to see Lynch get slagged. It would have been fun to see him in Ozzy's band, and wonder how long before he beat the crap out of the hunchbacked troll....

On top of that is also albums like "Bat-Head Soup: A Tribute To Ozzy" and "Little Guitars: A Tribute to Van Halen". (Produced by Bruce Bouillet) They more or less create a band from individual performers. Their interpretations of the songs are very interesting. The only time that I feel that it has ever gone horribly wrong is when E'Nuff Z'Nuff did "Yankee Rose"

Keeping on the topic, the Lynch version of Paranoid is, IMHO, an awesome version. It shows how you can take a well-known song and somehow make it your own without destroying the vibe of the original.

Bat-head Soup track listing:
- Mr. Crowley (Tim Owens, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tim Bogert, Tommy Aldridge, Derek Sherinian)
- Over the Mountain (Mark Slaughter, Brad Gillis, Gary Moon, Eric Singer, Paul Taylor)
- Desire (Lemmy Kilmister, Richie Kotzen, Tony Franklin, Vinnie Colaiuta)
- Crazy Train (Dee Snider, Doug Aldrich, Tony Levin, Jason Bonham)
- Goodbye to Romance (Lisa Loeb, Dweezil Zappa, Michael Porcaro, Stephen Ferrone, Michael Sherwood)
- Hellraiser (Joe Lynn Turner, Steve Lukather, Billy Sherwood, Jay Schellen, Paul Taylor)
- Shot in the Dark (Jeff Scott Soto, Bruce Kulick, Ricky Phillips, Pat Torpey, Derek Sherinian)
- Children of the Grave (Jeff Martin, Paul Gilbert, John Alderete, Scott Travis)
- Paranoid (Vince Neil, George Lynch, Stu Hamm, Gregg Bissonette)
- Suicide Solution (Adam Paskowitz, Peter Perdichizzi, James Book, Nick Lucero)
- I Don't Know (Jack Blades, Reb Beach, Jeff Pilson, Bobby Blotzer, Paul Taylor)

Little Guitars track listing:
- Unchained (Jack Russell, Dweezil Zappa, Marco Mendoza, Eric Singer)
- I'm The One (Mark Slaughter, Doug Aldrich, Tim Bogert, Frankie Banali)
- Dance The Night Away (Joe Lynn Turner, Reb Beach, Marco Mendoza, Gregg Bissonette)
- Light Up The Sky (Doug Pinnick, Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Sheehan, Vinnie Colaiuta)
- Panama (Jani Lane, George Lynch, Tony Franklin, Gregg Bissonette)
- Hot For Teacher (John Corabi, Bruce Kulick, Tony Franklin, Gregg Bissonette)
- Running With The Devil (Steven Pearcy, Jake E. Lee, Tim Bogert, Frankie Banali)

- Little Guitars (David Glen Eisley, Mitch Perry, Marco Mendoza, Eric Singer)

Im not so sure its always ozzy's decision as to who the guitarist is.After rhoads died, ozzy hired Rudy Sarzo's brother Robert, but Sharon told Brad Gillis was hired. We all know who got the gig.Im willing to bet that if Robert retained the gig, Rudy might not have gone on to rejoin Quiet Riot.Makes me wonder what really happened with Lynch and jake e lee.I wonder if if ozzy hired lynch and sharon wanted jake. We know that she "wanted" Randy Rhoads, enough to sleep with the guy.ewwwwwwwwwwww yuck!
