• Morbid Angel???

All my fellow morbid angel listeners.........What amp and effect setup does Trey use?? I know theres delay and a phaser in there somewhere but what kind, and also what amps? Ive been working on making a good duplicate of his sound just to mess around on with my Digitech 2101 but i want to know if anyone has exact specs on his sound. Morbid angel rocks!!! Re: Morbid Angel???

I never liked trey's tone...I know he relied on Pro Co Rat distortion as his "secret weapon"...that's probably what I didn't like about his tone...way too mushy...

but he's a pretty cool player...I was more partial to Eric Rutan's tone ..

he used to have a huge rack of shit ...now he uses a much simplier set up these days..but the pro co Rat is still there...you can always hear it in his tone... all these years..

On Stage Pedals from the Heretic Tour (from left to right; DOD Flanger, MXR Phaser, Morley Bad Horsie 2, footswitch for dual channel rackmount ProCo RAT)

Older diagram of his setup (basic setup is still the same)

I can't find my images of his micing setup, but he usually has 4 mics setup, one on his "less wet" cab in standard position (one in the typical SM57 position), on his "more wet" cab he had three obscure mics setup. 1 arranged with a blastic bowl going completely over the entire speaker with the SM57 poking through the bottom of the bowl; another covered in a bubble of plastic (think of it like the SM58's spit cover, but just plastic and around an SM57) and the other 57 setup with a fan between the speaker and the mic.

It helps obtain weird sounds. If you listen to their albums a lot of the solos that Trey pulls off are with weird micing techniques. Formulas has a lot of the weird micing setups for the solos. If you have the "Love Of Lava" bonus CD, or the Heretic "Bonus Levels" CD you can hear a lot of that stuff.

I'm pretty sure the solo in "At One With Nothing" (From Gateways) at like 1:40 is with the fan setup and some heavy delay.

Yes I think I have an article somewhere where Trey explains all the weird techniques he uses to get the sound he does on his solos... Definately creative

I know he worships Eddie Van Halen..

and Satan...or whatever other name he has for him...he's off in his own little "plastic bowl"..

I've talked with him a few times about this. He says that the Eventide is only for the stereo effect. Not sure about that one. Otherwise JCM 900'S and Pro Co.
