Mike's cool...if he were here in cleveland...I'd make sure he and I would go see Stryper...he could shield me from getting beaned in the head with the King James version when I'm not lookin'...

They were a joke when they were new, they are still a joke. I could sit through a triple header of Firehouse, Poison and Trixter before I could sit through one Stryper show.

I was almost with you until you threw in Trixter. I would much rather see Stryper. A guilty pleasure for sure. There are many songs from bands I like where I don't like the lyrics. Stryper is just one of them.

Well, I was going for maximum sarcasm. I don't know if I could sit through Trixter at all.....

I am surprised that you don't like them too bro. Stryper rocks big. Real big. Totally excellent dual harmony guitar solo's, great sound, great songs, great look and a refreshing message at the time. Regardless of your faith or whatever.. the music kicks much ass. There were alot of bands polluting the air waves back then. Stryper was not one of them.

May have to break down and drive that 4 hours to take the boy to see them. He loves their playing and thinks it's badass. So does his Papa!

I saw a triple bill back in '91 of Warrant (headliners), Firehouse (2nd act), and Trixter (opener). Hey, it was an outdoor show and I had never been to an outdoor concert before. I am gonna take a lot of $h!t for this, but...Trixter actually put on a good show. They had a lot of energy, and they sounded good. They did a couple of covers (can't remeber through the Bud haze {I was an 18 year old kid...what did I know about good beer?} and they were pretty tight musically. My buddy even caught a drumstick, which he used to pick up a die hard Trixter fan that night (she was a hottie that's for sure)

Let the $h!t flinging begin...{ducks for cover}

This is badass. I was born in December 85 so I missed the glory days, but these guys are playing at the Paradise which is a 5 minute walk from my house...I'm there

I'm right outside of Boston (Dedham) I am definitely going to see them at the Paradise.
These guys can play, I don't really care what they are singing or preaching about, so it will be a very cool show!

there is no dispute as to the guys in stryper being able to play their instruments quite well, but i'm with mike, those songs suck huge unit. the best thing about the stryper shows were the girls that were in attendance. there's always two of them TX -lol

I know they can shred and it is '80s metal bliss. But the falsetto singing, the lyrics, the message are all too much for me. It is not a matter of faith for me, I don't begrudge anyone their religious beliefs...but it just doesn't do it for me. I can't rock out to songs about Jesus. I guess that is just my take on it. If you like them, by all means...enjoy the show.

Stryper was kickass when I saw them many moons ago. TNT opened for them. That was a great show.

Hey Dreamland_Rebel, we should do a Raleigh to Charolette road trip and catch the show.

Now Trixter, that's ABBA-Gay™.

now TNT is more rock and roll to me. i hung with tony harnell a few times, he was a cool cat. never got to meet ronni le tekro though. some of their songs are a little over the top too but i dig 'em in general.

No, the difference is that the other bands were doing it tongue-in-cheek...and Stryper's message is serious. Anyways, the Ice Cream Man was a metaphor!!

I don't think most bands out there are doing their stuff tongue in cheek. How many bands out there actually have something not-retarded to say? Dio sings about Rainbows and Dragons, Mustaine is like the heavy metal Bono with his retarded rants, the death metal guys grunt and growel - who cares?

The only guy that had something to say I cared about was David Lee Roth. He wrote lyrics for a lot of situations.
<ul type="square">[*]Getting laid - well, that'd be most of them but he did cover lots of different ground from teenage teacher lust to beach trolling for babes[*]People in moments of crisis - if you're on the verge of suicide you "...might as well...JUMP!"[*]dreaming the impossible dream - "I'll Wait" is a great example of this[*]hmmm...ok, so maybe the songs were just about getting laid...
