Money talk Bullshit walks..

          Yeah I know Siggs..

I'm NOT shitting on green day...there is a HELL of alot more bands I'd rather shit on..seriously

Greeday don't bother me at all..and yeah that have wrote some catchy shit..I was just using "Them" as an example is all..

But it's a "guitar" mag...that means it should be focusd on guitar..and theose who make it GREAT!!!

Thats like putting Martha Stewart on the Cover of Playboy..yeah she's a woman , yeah she's popular , yeah she makes a great banana bread...but C'MON!!!

I am just saying he deserves it as much as anyone else, he may not be the fastest player, but he can write damn good rythem parts, and that is just as important as writting leads. Can you imagine how boring a band would be were all they did is solo througout the whole song!

Also when you think about it, Jimmy page was more of a good rythem player, you saying jimmy didnt deserve to be on any covers? And dont give that comparing Jimmy to billy argument, both were damn good rythem players for there genre of music.

OK point taken..can't argue that at all

I just want to see more "unsung" heroes of geetar exposed..people who have been bustin' ass for years at their craft..to perfect it beyound most people's abilties and showcase that..and asomething for us..we to strive for..

Like what Mike Varney used to...but on a much larger scale..

I think it should be both really...a "music" showcase..and a place for this kind of exposure and acknowledgement as well ..I guess..

People though Metal was completely DEAD in the entire 90's it wasn't ...in the mainstream it sure was...you were looked at as a "dork" if you could shred...which to me was a shame..

but it didn't die...it built strenght all those years in the underground until it became to damn good to ignore...then they all broke thru like Shadows Falls , Arch Enemy , Lamb of God , Nevermore , ...these bands have been around for a long time...in the 90's..

Yeah i am happy to see some shreading going on again, even in the SO-Cali bands that alot of people on this board dont like are shreading some. It has become a lost art and i am glad it is coming back. I grew up looking up to Jake E Lee and Lynch and Eddie etc.. and use to spend hours on hours shreading myself, so good to see it back.

I am not much into the newer metal that is "popular" today, because there is just to much screaming for me, and as for the Europe vibe, most of it is black metal and as much as i love the music, i just dont relate to the lyrics. So basically i need a band that is mixed between the two.

                yeah I hear ya dude..

the angst and the screaming thing is an aquired tatse...but i grew with it in that underground...so by the time it surfaced...I was right there with it..it's not "new" breed for me....but new for most...and that has some shock value if you're not ready..

my own music sounds like that..I just kept up on metal and it influenced me just as it was...

I was always anti radio...ever since I can remember...it's just so homoginized to me..and "safe"..

                much like these media mags..

but it is a relief to see shredding back...I never thought I'd ever see the day..

I thought it was gone forever..in popularity anyways..

so I now have a subscription to GW again...because of it...I cancelled them about 8 years ago when I didn't see one single shredder in their mags at all...then I just got disgusted...like with the radio..

but it's back ...why....I don't care...I just care that it's back ..because that's what I live for and love..

and Loooooooooomis NEEDS to be on the top of it!!!

I like screaming, but i like more of the lo growl. I also like a 70/30 mix, 70% cleans and 30% screaming, i love the contrast between the two.

Flame suit on here, but one of my all time favorite albums is staind's dysfunctional, perfect combination of screaming and cleans, and he got his point across just fine. After that album staind just went downhill. I also like that he went against the grain and played marshalls in a time when everyone was playing mesa boogies in the modern mode.

                    Re: Jeff Loomis and...Warmoth?!?

I had that album when it came out ..what back in 98..99..

in the wave of all that NU stuff...I accumulated alot of that Nu stuff at the time and it became way too cookie cutter for me and not in a good way..because all genres becmone somewhat "cookie cutter" to some degree especially when popular..thats just the nature of the beast..

so I dumped it all never to look back again...and I don't miss a note of it..not a one..

I guess I'm very closed minded when it comes to MY music ...which is nothing BUT metal...but very open minded when it comes to "metal"..I guess..

reason why I like a lot of different styles of metal I suppose..

but there is always a consistant element to MY music and that is shredding...and that in itself can come in many different forms..enough forms not to ever get bored with it..

But I did see that Staind's Mushok (sp) guy in a recent GW in that "I betcha can't play this" column...so he must have ability to "shred"...and if and when he does...I'll hear it..and maybe appreciate him at that point..

While I'm not a fan of Staind at all, I can vouch that Mushok can shred his ass off. He was a student of Tony McAlpine's, and a very good one. So good, in fact, that he was offered a slot in McAlpine's touring band, but turned it down because he wanted to go do his own thing. I talked to McAlpine when he came through Jaxx a year ago, and he confirmed the stories.
