Re: Iron Maiden Strats

Did you have to route it for the hum or was it a universal route?

Re: Iron Maiden Strats

thanks for the kind words guys. the guard is a warmoth matte black one, not black mirror. i got tired of all the small scratches that mirror gets no matter what you do with it and the matte black just made the guitar look evil lol. as for the route, the body is made to vintage specs and routed single/single/single so i did have to bust out the good ol' router....but it was well worth it since the guitar is more "me" now and sounds much better IMO.

I used to own onw and loved it-but a player friend of mine freaked out about it and gave me a large amount for it??
I told him what I had in it and he said I will pay double??
I kept saying no and finally sold it to him because I got tired of hearing it from him every time he came over.A great sounding and player I miss it

Re: Iron Maiden Strats

Damn, I want one now. However, the last one on Ebay went for $699 or something like that... there is no way that I'd pay that sort of used-USA-Jackson price for something that LOOKS like as cool as it does but doesn't have the specs I necessarily want.

I'd need a flatter fretboard radius. I am just more comfortable on a 12" radius or flatter. Plus, I don't get along with Strat neck backshapes for some reason. Basswood is also not my body wood of choice... I'd rather take alder or ash. That's just a few things I'd have changed, which would be expensive to swap...

Maybe I'll just do the Warmoth thing and build something that LOOKS like the Fender Maiden Strat but functions and feels the way I personally like.

Re: Iron Maiden Strats

I just got a Warmoth tele neck delivered (birdseye maple/birdseye maple, jumbo frets) and it is absolutely killer.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

Re: Iron Maiden Strats

Funny thing is I completely ignored their guitars until i saw them playing Charvels and jacksons...I was a huge maiden head since Killers too. I always thought of Maiden as the musical icon and the hair guys as the gearhead icons... wierd.

I heard that Davey bought the original black strat from Paul Kossof? Any truth in that?

That's sort of true: It was Paul Kossoff's guitar, but Davey didn't buy it from him.....
