• Def Leppard - Dayton, OH 8/9/05 Phil & Viv's Gear

I just got back from the Def Leppard and Bryan Adams show at Fifth Third Field in Dayton (less than 5 miles from my house). Def Leppard was supposed to close tonight originally, but the promoters swithced them to close tomorrow night in Michigan instead, since it is the last show of the Double Header tour.
I mananged to get right in front of Phil about 5 rows back and could see his guitars very well all night.
Here is what he played and for which songs he played them.
Jackson PC1 (Black skully w/ aluminum pickguard)
Action
Let's Get Rocked

Jackson PC1 (green Kermit)
Women
Foolin'
Hysteria
Promises

Fender Telecaster (not sure what model, but it was an orangish red with body binding and pearloid pickguard)
No Matter What
Love Bites

Fender Telecaster (American Deluxe?, vintage white with pearloid pickguard)
Armageddon It
Rock On

Jackson PC1 (Purple Daze, new strat head)
Rocket
Photograph
Animal
Rock Of Ages
--------------------------------

Jackson Dinky (Bela graphic) Oh yeah! It was awesome seeing Phil with an old pointy Jackson!
Bringin' On The Heartbreak
Pour Some Sugar On Me

Viv was playing Les Pauls all night. He had a vintage sunburst, gold top, and silver sparkle.

Joe said that they were given a big party last night for the ending of the Double Header tour, some kind of karoke party. He was doing Dolly Parton and Cher, I guess. It seemed as if they hadn't been to sleep yet and were either still drunk or extremely slap happy. Anyways, they put on a great show and the crowd was totally into it and very energetic. Phil's sound was awesome as usual and he seemed to use the Sustainer even more than ever before!
I left about 5 songs into Bryan Adams... boring

WOW....I didnt even know they were gonna be here. OH well, I'm not a big fan. Did the Jackson PC1 (Black skully w/ aluminum pickguard) have a rev HS?? If so, that may belong to Brooks.

I bet there was nothing but crickets left to hear Brian Adams.

No. Phil's black PC1 has a standard headstock which is actually painted black with a big Jackson logo. It kind of looks funky and I think Brooks' reverse natural headstock looks much better.

Gaaahhhhh!!! No "Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)"? I have a strange liking towards that particular song... as well as "Armageddon It" and "Hysteria" in particular. Glad those two were played at least.

Only 16 songs? That's like an hour... jeez... I paid sixty-something dollars for an hour-long Lep show? They better be friggin' good... Can't wait until Saturday.

Nope, over an hour and a half. But, you're not going to have to deal with Bryan Adams. Def Lep is the only headliner for the Canadian shows, so I'd imagine you'll get a regular two hour long set from the boys.
Randy Coleman played about 30 minutes last night before Def went on.

Okay, I got all the songs correct but I forgot a guitar Phil played and I can't remember where to fit it in. Oh well, it was a Red Rum PC1...

Saw them a few weeks back. Played pretty much the same stuff, except no purple or green PC1s. I saw a solar, chlorine, and (new strathead) natural, though. Good show.

And, IMHO, Brian Adams puts on a pretty damn good show. If you can get past the cheesy 80s ballads that he's most known for, the dude's a songwriting fiend with a lot of rockers. And his guitarist (...Keith Scott, I think?) has some chops, in his own style.

What kind of amps are Phil and Viv using for this tour?

Unfortunately, it's not just Lep. We've got another Canadian band called The Tea Party opening for Lep. I'm not terribly fond of them, even though Bill Z Bub apparently likes some of their stuff, but they sound NOTHING like Def Leppard. Having Bryan Adams open for Lep here would at LEAST be closer to being in the musical ballpark than The Tea Party. I'll gladly take Bryan Adams any day of the week.

Cheesy ballads... of course, why not? Half of Def Leppard's set is cheesy sappy ballads.

You don't understand. Def Leppard and Bryan Adams were co-headlining a tour together taking turns closing shows. One night Def would close and the next night BA would close, both doing 1 1/2 hour sets each night.
The Tea Party is only a supporting act as a warm up band only, not a co-headliner. So, you WILL get two hours of Def dude!

Ohhh! My mistake. For some reason I never knew that they were co-headlining.
