You are right for the previous albums but the latest one has very cool riffs and solo imho. Don't get me wrong I almost hate the nu-metal stuff. I'm stil into oldschool stuff [img]/images/graemlins/headbang.gif[/img]

As I said more power to you. I just don't get the logic of trying to convince people to respect Slipknot because they shred in their bedrooms. This is like defending a famous star of gay porn movies, saying that he is actually married to a pornchick and is good in bed. Yeah right! He still smokes pole in front of the camera. That is Slipknot right there.

For me Slipknot is still an over-hyped bunch of no talent hacks with the level of integrity equal to Backstreet Boys and N'Sync, no matter what.

I am 35 years old. I am an 80's metal freak. My main guitar influences are Mick Mars and Dave Murray............but I LOVE SLIPKNOT! Jim Root and Mick 7 are students of shred and they can both pull off some killer leads. I have alot of respect for these new kids. Not only are they a huge success with the tired old makeup trick and the ever so over used drop tunning, but they slip in some bitchin solos! And to top all that off Jim Root is keepin it old school by playing Chravel guitars. He deserves them IMO. I am tickled that he's a part of the J/C family.

Just for the record, they are about the same age you are. I have a good friend (who is 34) that graduated high school with Jim Root. They're still very good friends so it's fun to hear the inside scoop on what the Slipknot guys do on their down time here in Des Moines.

The only one we ever see around town regularly though is Corey Taylor, he hangs out at the local rock clubs to watch us hacks...he seems like a real cool guy.

I loved the first Slipknot album, didn't care all that much for the second, but it was okay. I've still gotta get the new one eventually. Those guys are really good, and Corey can really sing when he wants to.

it wasnt a situation where they had any choice in the matter. ross robinson was all about creating a 'new sound' at that point in time. i remember reading an article a few months back that was describing some of mick's solos as very yngvie-like. real virtuoso sounding and that when ross did his thing they were pretty ticked off if i remember right, but look back on it as not such a bad decision. their latest album was the first one that they got real full artistic freedom to do what they wanted and i think it shows.

now sure, you can put that blame on their heads. real musicians wouldnt have put up with that but who knows what really went down and what each of us would do in that situation. maybe the album wouldnt have happened if jim and mick insisted on the solos staying. would you be willing to give up something like that just to keep the album the way you want it? i mean, they were on a label and at a time in music were producers played a greater role in constructing a groups sound than at other times.

solos or not though, the band's riffing is unique and heavy enough by itself for me to put them above the level of 'no talent hack.' like i said before, the 15 year old teen angst lyrics are my only complaint with the band, but coreys voice is pretty decent. plus, they might have the best arena presense for any band in recent memory. i certainly cant think of any other band that emerged from that era that didnt either sound horrible or just stand there on stage.

to each their own though.



bigd...are you from des moines? i go to ISU up in ames and yeah you're right, its cool to hear about the normal everyday sort of things those guys still do. and yeah, i havnt run into anyone all that often outside of corey at HoB shows.

Mostly justful opinion, however the 'no-talent' part does not fly. The music they publish is in no way a representative for their talent. Their playing is, and they can play well.
