Re: Did EVH have a Marshall Endorsement?

    > George Lynch said in an interview that he thought he had finally nailed Eddie's tone with an old Korina Destroyer,a vintage Tube Screamer, and some old Park amp, which was either a Marshall knock off from the 60's or was actually made by Marshall in an attempt to expand the line. I think it was an EL34 type, and was laid out just like the Super Lead 100,according to the pic. Tommy D.

Park amps were made by Marshall. They were made to get around a marketing agreement that Marshall had with some distributor (I can't remeber the fine details, but if someone is interested, I can look it up in one of my Marshall books) and used several different tube complements, including EL34's, KT66's, and KT88's.

Yeah I read that about lynch..

If Van Halen 1st album didn't kick everyone sqaure in the nuts..well then VH II may not have existed..

I give a prop to Gene Simmons on that!!

I remeber reading recently about a club that Lynch was playing and VH opened for him..George was the local hero dude and that there was a scout maybe Gene..that he wanted to impress badly...well VH came out and just anal raped and cock blocked Lynch basically..and that was that..VH went on to big and better things in a big way..leaving poor georgy in the dust..

I read that it was a fender amp instead of a park tho..I knew he played those Parks as well..

I use VH licks and riffs to test an amp..any amp..it has to throw back everything I throw at it perfectly..and amps like Rectos and DSL don't cooperate with me there..not at all....but my Uber sure does!

Man VH1 IMO was the tone, Fair Warning was my next fav. VH2 was a cleaner version of one I thought. Still very cool but it would run third relative to fair warning in my book. Women and Children has some mean tracks on it too and Diver Down had Cathedral which I thought at the time was about the coolest thing I ever heard done on a guitar. Not like bounce back had not been used before that..but using it with quick volume swells and a tap, that was a first for me.

It was kinda like watching Rush evolve on their albums as a individuals and as a band.

what's weird is that the 5150..has nothing to do with Ed's tone up till that point...

Ed's classic tone and a 5150 is apples and oranges..I said that the day I bought one back in '91..

            I thought..cool amp...but this ain't EVH...???!!!

No one said Ed was playing with a full deck! This is the guy who had the Wolfgang's toggle switch working the opposite way. I remember when Donny (Drsracing) had his Wolfie... he thought his neck pup was brighter than his bridge pup. I guess Eddie likes to come up with brilliant ideas when drunk!

            HAHAHAHAHA!!! I remember that

At 1 time I had My wolfie and a 5150 and still couldn't nail a Good VH tone, I had a Carvin DC125 with a custom custom in it, and with the 5150 was able to pull off an Awsome RR/Lynch tone, and was able to get a decent sounding EVH 1984 tone, but no where near a VH1/Fair Warning tone. Got a sweet Thrash tone out of it. I was playing a lot of Testamnent thru it

IMO, VHI is THE gold standard for guitar tone, followed closely by Fair Warning. I also love Women and Children First. VHII was a little restrained for me, compared to the others listed - but still great!

What is a restrained guitar tone? It sounds like you're talking about songs, in which case I much prefer Fair Warning and VH I, but for pure guitar tone, VH II is it.
