Not seen a thread on this yet, to my amazement?!!!
I personally think this might be their magnum opus. It combines their death metal roots with the usual dark ambience, with something 70's proggy with some very sentimental, softer passages. And of course guitarsolo's are more frequent on this album as well, which Akerfeldt wrote and played beautifully!
The addition of the keyboard player added a whole new dimension to their sound and songs. And Mikael's vocal reach just stays amazing, the man has the greatest growl of all time.
I was awestruck when I first heard it. The Baying Of The Hounds is my favorite Opeth song of all time.
I was afraid when I heard Grand Conjuration, I didn't like it much, but don't judge the album on this single, because it is much better.
So what are your thoughts!?
