I bought this album with my parents money.

Its a snoozefest. Get Burning Bridges and Black Earth..and your ARch Enemy collection is complete.

Re: Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine

I'm unimpressed after multiple listenings. It just seems highly formulaic and lacking in energy compared to previous releases. I'm also bothered by the small but blatant Megadethisms that they continue to sneak in. This one even has the radioactive sign on it. C'mon! But then people think I'm nuts for swearing Shadows Fall sound JUST like a hardcore version of Anthrax! New Darkane is better than AE, but its no Rusted Angel. The only new Swedish release I'm waiting for now is the new freakin' Dissection!

Re: Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine

Scho..I picked up a two song Dissection "maha kali"..it's certainly different for them but I like..you may NOT!

Shawows fall are a cool bunch of dudes ..I hung with them until about 5am at mt bros bar..we had a little private party...they have been improving but that singer just grates on nerves more than Angela ever will..and that's no fuckin' shit!

dreadlocks and a baseball jersey is just not fucking metal to me ..and especialy with a voice as lame as his (that's my story)..the band is cool but NOT even close to the calibre and abilities to that of AE..

yeah, I can see a similarity to the Anthrax comparison..John Bush is another one that always grated on my nerves with his style..he's was cool in Armored Saint..and he's seems more "metal" now at least...since its cool again.

Picked up the re-issue of Rusted Angel...

my favorire Darkane release still.

Re: Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine

Rusted Angel is one of the finest metal albums ever made! In fact, the only album I own that I like more is AIC's Facelift, but of course that's a completely different creature.

I sure hope the new Dissection album is a good one. "Maha Kali" didn't cut it for me, although it wasn't bad. The two most recent MP3s up on the Dissection site were much closer to their classic sound. It can't be worse than Soul Reaper...well, the first one. Haven't heard their second one.

Anybody listened to The Absence (Metal Blade) yet? We're playing with them in two weeks, kinda curious if anyone knows much of them.

Inazone I think The Absence may be more of a metal-core band like their label mates..Into the moat and The Black Dahlia Murder..althought TBDM..is more metal than "core"..

I know what you mean by having all the peices to the puzzle..even bands that put out boners..Like Crimson Glory with that gay one "strange and beautiful"..it's the gayest..but it's a piece to a puzzle so I keep it..yeah VERY Weird..I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this madness..

I got EXTREMELY lucky to find Strange and Beautiful. Then I THOUGHT I was extremely lucky to find the War of the Worlds EP...but now I CONSTANTLY see it at Newbury Comics. And I've never found any of their other albums.

Re: Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine

well....i listened to the album A LOT during the last days (mostly while driving), and well, i don't think it's as bad as i initially said.
the intro is pretty lame imho, the second song is quite a headbanger, though. nemesis is good except for the ultra cheesy lyrics. my apocalypse is also great, except for the AWFUL middle section and the second part of the verse riff. the intro/chorus is great, though, very groovy and quite weird sounding.
carry the cross is rather mediocre. the intro is lame, but gets better after the tremolo picked guitar kicks in.
out for blood is my favourite next to taking back my soul. it's probably the fastest song, thats why i'm diggin it.
i haven't listened to the other song as much as i listened to the first ones, mostly because i rarely had to drive more than half an hour

Dude...you NEED the debut and Transcendence I would have been turned off the band if I just picked up those two. Seriously, the first two albums are INCREDIBLE

what if john bush joined shadows fall...then we'd see some insanely cool music IMO!!!
