I sure hope the new Dissection album is a good one. "Maha Kali" didn't cut it for me, although it wasn't bad. The two most recent MP3s up on the Dissection site were much closer to their classic sound. It can't be worse than Soul Reaper...well, the first one. Haven't heard their second one.

Honestly, those two new Dissection tracks were a huge let down to me. They're just half assed Gothenburg inspired metal. There is absolutely zero indication of the traditional Dissection style which was melodic yet dark riffing with a ton of evil atmosphere surrounding it. Dissection was one of the few bands that could be melodic and catchy without being happy sounding, and unfortunately, these past two songs, to me, sound like a shadow of their former selves. Jon's got his big ole MLO agenda that he wants to spread throughout the world and that melodic death metal sound is pretty popular right now.

This being said, I will still probably buy the album when its released. I like the songs, but to me it sounds like a completely different band.

If you want to hear the continuation of Dissection, check out Dawn - Slaughtersun. The songs are all long and very similar to that melodic mid-90's Dissection style.

PS - I actually like Soul Reaper

I just figured I should chime in and say I love Doomsday Machine. Best Arch Enemy album since Stigmata, imo.

Dude...you NEED the debut and Transcendence I would have been turned off the band if I just picked up those two. Seriously, the first two albums are INCREDIBLE

Yeah, I've heard a couple of tracks off the first two, and they're insanely awesome. I like what I've heard of Astronomica too (And the War EP), but not quite as much as the first two.
