Nothing really ..Morello, has seemed to improved as a player and "song" writer..but he is certainly far removed from a being "guitar hero" that grace the covers of GW CONSTANTLY..

Jeff Loomis is a "Guitar hero" in pure form ..where's his GE cover..he's making solos popular again after a 12 year+ obliveon..

Mike Romeo / Uli Roth / Jeff Loomis / Criss Oliva / Tore Otsby / Petrucci / Chuck Shuldiner and a hundred more I can name are GUITAR HEROES!!..

Like I always said, GW and the lot should be about the best of what The Guitar WORLD has to offer. Not some popular flavor of the month BS..because they have a hit song loved by a zillions of spoon fed sheep..

as far as "I'm" concerened THIS proved to me in 30 seconds that he is worthy to grace a cover of a GW cover than Morello has done in a decade.

I'm just speaking in generalities Sister Margret..

Anything faster than 38 nps sounds like to me. (The Kronosonic forum ridicules a guy claiming 75 nps - remember, power cycle hum is 50 Hz). Maybe he measured a glissando or a (slow) strum. Interesting paper on that topic:

Obviously that clip was to showcase his "speed" capabilties which seemed to be articulate.

It's cool that he woodsheded to get to that level..I truly respect that.

I was hanging with Loomis as he was warmin' up for a while and believe me that dude can GO and make EVERY note count!!!

I'm sure there is other facets to that dude's playing abilties..but THAT certainly did NOT suck..

hmm, Morello developed his own style wich I apriciate a lot, no one else doesn't sound like him. Well he can shred, he used to play a lot of Gilbert style licks on the early RATM days but it didn't felt right for him because he sounded like the other shredders so he made his own thing wich is pretty cool IMHO.

Re: Possibly most impressive technical playing eve

I've gotten old and lazy. I should do real practice stuff like this guy does. But my practice consists of either noodling around for a couple of hours or doing the specific finger gymnastics I need to do to play whatever strange piece of music I'm writing/recording at that particular moment. I haven't done actual 'exercises' since I was, like, 19 years-old. I'd probably be a lot better player if I did...

Re: Possibly most impressive technical playing eve

I love taking something that seems impossible and making it feel natural. It's very gratifying...I wish I did that when I was younger. It is a challenge to make speedy runs fit tastefully into a piece but, that’s what makes music progress. I just can't listen to the same "sweet" spots being played on a pentatonic scale. We all know where to bend/stop and hold...Blah blah blah. Thank God for guys like Yngwie showing us that emotion can come out of speedy runs...Even if the speed is just a build up to a climatic bend. I remember how everyone cut him down...That dude has more passion in his playing than most of the guys cutting on him.
