If I wasn't watching that and I was just listening, I would swear it was just some dufus running 1 finger up and down a string...it was SO fast it was almost indistinguishable.

Hey I suck and I know it... ok, maybe not that bad.
I can hold my own with the average joe out there, but as jgcable says... it's all about commitment.
I'm not the young kid I once was and between work and family, don't have the time to practice like I used too.
Many years ago it was 4 hours a day, every day.
Now it's more like 4 hours a week, if the kid goes to bed on time and I don't have a honey-do list a mile long.
I still enjoy playing and can appreciate what this guy can do and what it takes to get there.
He's got skills, but like I said before... not my thing personaly.
I'd rather drop in any SRV CD and just enjoy the experience that only Stevie can produce.

A lot of the comments here remind me of the "I play for the song" snobbery that you'd see from alt-rock wussies. Technical mastery is a tool, nothing more or less. Players who do nothing but run scales throughout a piece of music don't do much for me, but then neither do guys who sit around and brag that their lack of technical skill somehow makes them a better musician. I call bullshit on that big time.

I've never heard the guy in this video in the context of his band, or his real music. In the video, he's just showing an exercise that is pretty damned amazing. I would prefer to have better audio to hear how clear his playing really is, though.

[/ QUOTE ]

At least someone is with me here... Well said! I hope I never get judged as a musician by a 30 second exercise.

nahh, I'm a hypercritical SOB, but your riffs and leads are AWSOME. You need to join a band and record some stuff.

+1. There's a certain point where more speed doesn't make it any better. Impressive, don't get me wrong, but much prefer the speed of Yngwie or PG....

Thanks for sharing! Can tell somebody practices a lot!

What does liking Beck have to do with this video?

I really think GOR was just showing us this really fast dude, and I doubt this dude is trying to out do the Jeff Beck’s of the world or win over their fans. Its okay to appreciate technique and speed guys...its okay...

That's right. We don't want to fall back into the "Dark Times", ie, the grunge era, where there are no solos allowed and if you can't keep your guitar "out of tune" or suck on a consistent basis, you're sunk!

30 second clips = stupid.

the fact that he wasted the time adding that dumb graphic (30 NPS!!!!) clearly indicates that what we saw is the best this guy can do.

Technical ability is a very useful tool, but if its the only thing in your toolbox, well then you still suck. 1 trick ponies are lame. No matter what their trick is.

ok that dude is faster than Batio by far. That is sick. It looks like a mechanical arm and shit to me. It's amazing but seems to be a bit of a waste.

Maybe he has another vid titled "Phrasing 101"...and another titled "Emotion No#9"

I'm gunna give they guy a the benefit of the doubt here...

I can play faster than most people around my neck of the woods (Not a lot of competition, mind you )but, I would love to have that fingering technique in my "Tool Box". So I'm a gunna contact this dude and see what I can learn...Even if this IS all he can do it's still something I would like to achieve.

Peace!
