Re: Possibly most impressive technical playing eve

reminds me of that francesco guy. One chop wonder. He can sweep pick like no tomorrow but who cares. If you watch some of his videos, yeah....he's good at the sweep picking but in a few spots he tries some vibrato and string bending and FAILS MISERABLY and then straight back to jerking off

not my idea of good guitar playing, but thats just my opinion

Ohh yeahh Francesco is one of the problems with a lot of new players today-he tried to run before he can walk
SO many just try and play scales fast and rake(not sweep as the notes are not smooth)that they ignore the most important aspect of music, the dynamic and melodic timed phrases and VIBRATO..lol
I have to admit that when i was 16 i heard YJM and all of a sudden i was spending all day playing scales fast and learning(slowly)how to sweep arps.Up untill then i had only played a couple of years and i was in a punk band-so i didnt know any pent shapes and had no vibrato.Within a few months i could sweep simple triads around the neck and pick a couple of scale shapes so quick it was just sillly..lol
BUT i had no vibrato and couldt play pentatonic shapes with feeling. That took time!
Good music is good music no matter how fast or slow its played. The above playing was unmusical notes bunched together for speed-not knocking fast playing as i fucking love fast playing!(as well as slow)

let him play whatever he wants, it is his style and his emotiaons to play like that, we can't say what he should or should not play, just I don't listen to that kind of playing because I want to hear some notes and stuff.

That was absolutely the fastest playing I have ever seen in my life, he's faster than Francesco Fareri (which up until this was the fastest I had seen)...

I think there's room for all kinds of guitarists! Sure, I get bored after a while with this stuff too... but it's damn impressive the first time you see it!

Technical ability is a very useful tool, but if its the only thing in your toolbox, well then you still suck. 1 trick ponies are lame. No matter what their trick is.

Agreed.

Again, I would be curious to hear what kind of music this guy really does. There was a link to his band on the web site hosting that video, but it doesn't go to anything but a blank front page. Anybody have more info on this guy?

I e-mailed the dude last night..I'll keep you posted.

How does one "Clock" himself. I like to do this so I can monitor my progress as I aspire to be a feelingless one trick pony . I recorded some crap but, I have no idea how count the notes.

Okay...I recorded some picking runs then I zoomed in on the wav file, marked off one second where It seemed I played the fastest (Excludig and sweeps) and counted the peaks. I get 27 on the best section I can find...Is that realistic?

show me a clip where he applies the technique into a song with really cool melodies in it like for instance Paul Gilbert does....

Just play against a metronome and figure it out that way. For example, 144 beats per minute, 4 notes per tick (16th notes) = 576 notes per minute, divide by 60 = 9.6 notes per second. 32nd notes @ 144 bpm works out to 19.2 notes per second, etc.

It's all about the math, guys.

Hey I liked it better than Wes Borland or Tom Morello..

Wanking or not.. at least the guy can "play" the guitar ..not play with the guitar.

Hey look at me everybody I'm a fucking guitar heroe because I'm in a bubblegum pop band , look like a fag and make silly noises with 100 pedals..I'm awesome!

But that's MY story and I'm stickin' to it.

Well.. technically he was fast and clean....very good there....

But musically I see more merit in strapping picks to a drill and playing the intro to Pulp Fiction that way
