  • Helloween - I Want Out

I saw the "I Want Out" video this past weekend which I had never seen before. Anyway, the one guitarist was playing two different Rhoads-ripoff ESP-style looking Vs. One had a pointy headstock and the other had a Strat-type heastock (which I thought didn't go well togther). Anyone know what those guys were playing back then or if these guitars were parts mutts?

I'm pretty sure both guitars were Fernandes....

Funny story, back in maybe 1990 or so , they came to Miami, and stayed in the hotel where I was bartending during college. Long story short, I got to be buds with them, went to the show, and ended up on their bus and on the way to Tampa, Jacksonville, etc..They were on tour with Anthrax BTW. It was a killer time for sure...

Excellent! Helloween seem like they'd be a fun bunch of characters.

I think the 'original' band of that time all hate each other now don't they?

well, not to sure about kiske, weikath and grosskoph (sp?) but kiske and hansen are cool. kiske sang on gamma ray's "land of the free" record. weikath and hansen are cool now too, at least on civil terms.

but, about the guitars, kai hansen played the fernades V's toward the end of his time in helloween. even his main stage ESP rhoads is actually a fernandes withan ESP neck. the kai hansen sig ESP is actually a copy of his fernades copy of a jackson!!!! pretty funny.

I waffle on that from song to song. Kiske sounds amazing on "Keeper of the Seven Keys" and "We Got the Right." But Deris has a pretty awesome voice, too. I wouldn't kick either out of my band! Well, unless they were real wankwursts!

i actually prefer the new guitarist Sasha's vocals to their current singer. that guy is amaizing even if he has a gay haircut.

Kai actually came out on stage with them last year and did a couple songs on one of those european festivals. they get along fine now. kiske even came out and sang some songs with Helloween at some other festival. its all about happy german beer metal! or what i like to call, Dugga Dugga.

Really? I don't think I've heard him sing. Does he do anything on Rabbit Don't Come Easy? (that title contradicts everything I thought about rabbits, but that's neither here nor there)

I also thought Roland Grapow had a cool voice.

i like deris' voice, but i like the production and songs from the kiske era better. i have all their records except the cover album and treasure chest, and to me there are some good songs, but since kai hansen left, most of the songs are mediocre at best. i also miss the crisp production of the "keeper" albums.

The problem is when Deris has to sing "Eagle Fly Free" or "Future World" live. He seems to go through a lot of pain!

They've just released the third "Keeper of the Seven Keys" album, without Michael Kiske or Kai Hansen. It doesn't sound bad actually.

However, I prefer Gamma Ray (Kai Hansen's group since 1989). It sounds more similar to early Helloween than Helloween themselves now.

Deris has a good voice, but he sucks so bad at the Kiske era material, and he always butchers my favorite Helloween song, Eagle Fly Free. I had this bootleg of him trying to pull off the end part that Kiske holds out for a long period of time, it is so funny.

About Kiske's relations with other members.... "The big thing that stands in the way of such a performance is my relationship with Weiki. I have no problems with any of the band members, but Weiki and I simply aren't the best of friends anymore. Still, if he would ask me to sing with Helloween I would certainly consider it, should the past get out of our way.""

Andy Deris was really good in the early Pink Cream 69 cds...his solo stuff isn't bad either, but it doesn't "rock" so much...
