• The Rolling Stones

My wife and I are big Stones fans and I was fortunate enough to get some 22nd row seats for the show last Saturday. Those were excellent seats for a stadium show. We were on the very end of the row towards dead center so when part of the stage went out and down the middle we got some extreme closeups.

Sure, they're getting old. Sure, they made a couple mistakes. But, they're the f**king Rolling Stones and they delivered the goods in a HUGE way. In short, the show was brilliant. The Stones were simply amazing. Kiss is why I got into music but the Stones and Keith Richard are why I play the guitar. I hadn't seen them in 15 years and they were better this time and *more* energized. Mick is an amazing entertainer. His voice sounded better than it had in years. That guy has some much energy it's incredible.

Keith and Ron switched guitars pretty much every song. Ron was cool as hell too. He just fills things out in such a tasteful manner.

The Stones were very gracious to their support/backing musicians. This is something missing in too many shows. Mick introduced everyone by name and several folks were given showcase opportunities. The female backup singer was f**king unbelievable. The Stones did a Ray Charles tune "Night Time Is The Right Time", first off - Mick delivered the goods vocally - very moving - and then the female backup singer came out. She hit notes that would make Aretha and Whitney go WTF? Incredible.

They played a lot of hits and a couple new tunes. It was just sooo much fun!!!!!!!!!!

Keith sang a couple numbers and chatted up the crowd a bit. He's not got the greatest voice by a long shot but he's got soul. I loved it.

I know these guys aren't heavy like most folks here like but the Stones mean more to me than just about any other band ever. I have always connected with their music in ways that I can't explain. It was a very special night for my wife and I. The only disappointment was that they didn't play Gimme Shelter.

The opening act was Trey Anastasio. Meh. Decent players but they were boring to listen to after a while and even more boring to watch.

Stones are the epitomy of cool...glad they kicked ass at your show. I saw them in '89 on the Steel Wheels tour in Pittsburgh and they were awesome. Keith wrote the book on sleazy, groovin' riffs.
I may have to pick up a ticket for the Denver show next month.

Cool review. Thanks. I saw the Stones in Madison, WI about 10 yrs. ago, but I was so far away, I could hardly see anything. I've read great reviews for their new CD. Glad to hear that they're still kickin' some tail.

When I first told my wife I could get the tickets she said "go for it!". After I paid for the tickets I told her how much they were - she thought I was nuts. After the show she said "let's see what other cities they are playing in this tour". I'm thinking we need a trip back to Seattle

Re: The Rolling Stones

only time I've checked out the Stones live, we had a house near the freeway and the sound was blasting up the freeway from their gig at QE2 stadium, some 4 kilometres away. So I sat on my front stoop and listened awhile.

Never really been a huge Stones fan, but I did watch a doco on Ronnie last week. He's a very cool cat.

They are the true definition of Rock and Roll. Keith Richards is a guitar god. I always put him in the caliber of Jimmy Page. Amazing writer and player. Innovative and never boring. The Stones are legendary. You mentioned that they played alot of their hits. I ask you... do they have any songs that aren't hits??
