• An Evening With Dio ....London's Astoria

Saw Dio last night in London . That was one hell of a gig !! Doug Aldrich ripped !!!! Played a Gold Top LP most of the night and his strat for the rest.
Played the Holy Diver album from start to finish !! Also Heaven And Hell ,Man On The Silver Mountain , Long Live Rock n Roll , Sign of the Southern Cross , Gates Of Babylon + loads more Dio songs.
There were cameras everywhere so expect an official live DVD from London's Astoria pretty soon

sounds great, I love Aldrich's playing style. he has real nice feel and sometimes even what I consider perfect phrasing.
*fingers crossed* for a DVD !

Caught'em in Exeter last week. Ol' RJD's still gotta helluva voice, but God, he really is THAT small!
I agree for the most part with the others about Doug Aldridge, - he's a great player - but to me, in places he seemed to be overplaying a bit. It was cool at first, but toward the end of the show, I found myself wishing he'd give it a rest!
The video show was a bit cheesy though, wasn't it?

I am confused. Thought Aldrich left Dio, joined Whitesnake and Goldy was back in Dio. Aldrich is back in Dio again?

just checked his website - yep and Rudy Sarzo's in too. Anybody know how this came about. For the record I like his "overplaying".

Re: An Evening With Dio ....London\'s Astoria

Craig Goldy has some kind of arm injury apparently. So Doug is finishing the tour for Dio.

Doug is also putting the finishing touches on the 3rd Burning Rain record and it should be out early next year supposedly.

Here's the news report:

DIO's management company, Niji Management, reports that guitarist Craig Goldy hurt his arm while touring Russia and has been trying to continue to play the shows on painkillers, but it has now become impossible for him to continue. Therefore, former DIO axeman Doug Aldrich will be stepping in for him from the Eindhoven show on Oct. 6th and will play the rest of the tour, including the UK.

In response to rumours that the switch was prompted by Goldy's alleged drinking problems, Wendy Dio states emphatically that,"Craig has NOT been drinking, and has been a real trooper, trying to perform in pain with his arm. We are very pleased that Doug is able to perform with Dio and that we do not have to cancel any shows."

How do you hurt your arm playing? It's not like this is a dangerous profession. I've done some pretty stupid things onstage, but never hurt myself to the point that I couldn't play!

Nice press release..."Oh no, it wasn't the drinking, nuh uh...look over here!"

Re: An Evening With Dio ....London\'s Astoria

Interesting, Ive seen Dio with both guitarists and preferred Goldie by far. He fits...

When I saw Aldrich, he was playing Stevie Ray runs through his guitar solo and other areas, what gay thing to do at a "true metal" show. A lot of metal heads I talked to there that were not guitarists were even like WTF? Not that he isnt a great player, just playing inappropriately at that show for he should have been doing.

No way is he staying ONLY in Dio.Looks like Dio's touring schedule will have to work around Whitesnakes schedule. No way is coverdale letting him go.
