Didn't Coverdale and Sykes have some sort of falling out?

[/ QUOTE ]

They have in more recent years. I'm not sure about back in the day. Sykes and rest of the band who appear on the '1987' had already been let go by Coverdale by the time album came out. The band parts were recorded in 1985, but Coverdale injured his vocal chords and couldn't sing for awhile, so that delayed the album for a couple of years, and he fired the band (maybe to save money?) while he was waiting around to heal. Sykes also added some guitar parts for the American release of the 'Slide It In' album in '84. He joined the band after the album had already come out in Europe, but Geffen wanted a heavier sound for the American market, so Sykes went in and replaced a lot of Micky Moody's guitar parts to add a heavier feel and more blazing solos. As far as I know, the only song where Moody's parts are still intact is "Slow and Easy"--the slide guitar on that is played by Moody on both versions of the album.

There were single versions of "Here I Go Again" and "Give Me All Your Love" were rerecordings that have different guitarists. I believe that Dan Huff was brought in to play the guitar on one of them, and Vivian Campbell played the guitar solo on the single version of "Give Me All Your Love," which was his only recording while he was in Whitesnake.

Gary Moore definitely influenced a lot of players, Sykes being one of them.

Since they were both in Thin Lizzy at different times, that wouldn't be terribly surprising. They are both amazing players, though I've personally been more influenced by Sykes.

Nobody plays rhythm like Sykes...except maybe Eddie...and their styles are very different.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Sykes as a rhythm player is Jimmy Page on steroids.

I wish kids these days were listening to this kinda stuff, rather than to Black IP's

Some kids are listening to this kinda stuff. Though I'm nearly 20, I still consider myself a kid. Some of my favorite guys to listen to are Sykes, Moore, EVH, Randy, etc.

The 1987 Whitesnake album is one of my favorite albums for both songs and guitar tones, it's brilliant.

Born in 88, so please excuse me, in my mind, I had Whitesnake and Def Lep lumped in with Poison, Crue, etc, although don't really know anything by either (cept Photograph by Def Lep and Here I Go Again). It's sounding like from the stuff i read on the jcf that that's inaccurate. As far as the 80's go, I love Dio, Priest, Maiden, so I am definitely no nu-metaller by any stretch of the word.

Whitesnake is much more rock than pop. Def Leppard less so but their early work is great IMO. I'd give them a shot, I also think Dio's Holy Diver is brilliant

That's good to hear. I'm a kid, too.. turning 20 in Dec
I don't even know 90% of the stuff on MTV. I watch it like 2-3 times a year
And I can't listen to the modern rock, cuz the tone makes my ears puke

haha im turning 21 in a few days. i know CLEARLY that whitsnake and early DL arent anywhere near poison.... listen to the earlier albums with bernie mardsen and co.
also... i doubt any 'pop' album has ever had that good guitar tone and soulful playing as the '87 album.
check out sykes' bad boys live album. its more recent but he still gets that amzing tone and his singing isnt bad either. ive done some stuff with my podxt and the 'crunch' setting that sound very very close to his sound.

When you say Bob Rock are you talking about the drummer from Slaughter / Vinny Vincent Invasion? When did he have time to become a producer?

I don't think that's the same guy. The Rob Rock they are refering to is the one that has worked with Metallica on the Black Album till present.
