Anthrax is often mentioned here. Two of their guitarists used Jackson right? I forgot how one of them is called.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They might be mentioned here, but that does not make them hair metal. They are not in any way hair metal, other than they have hair.

I've always felt that way about def leppard.

I think the only band mentioned in this thread that would actually be metal is Anthrax!

Re: So all these 80s hair metal people talk about

Stryper's guitar players (Oz & Michael) were among the very best of ANY of the '80's 'Metal' or 'Hairband' era bands. TASTY players who always were aware of the sonic whole of a song....not just mindless fast notes.

I have always thought Michael Sweet was totally underappreciated as a guitar player then AND now! It always leaves me scratching my head.

I recommend 'Soldiers Under Command' or 'To Hell With The Devil' as a good place to start.

Their new album 'Reborn' is not bad either. Not as lead heavy but pretty good.

                    All hail the mighty Stryper.

Ok, they were close to metal, definitely not as heavy as Anthrax. I'd say more hard rock; a very good band, though. I do have The Yellow & Black Attack on blue vinyl, Soliders Under Command on vinyl, and a couple of their 12-inch singles (Reason For The Season, and Together As One). I kinda lost interest in them after that and stopped following them.
