He's using Krank nowadays, he rehearsed with them and he played both openinggigs for the Stones in SF with them. Remarkably and in contrast to what I was afraid of in advance, his tone was kick-fucking-ass.

They played the first half of Orion too!

Uhm, Not too sure Siggy. I had several friends confirm they unloaded the Krank head at both SF shows. He's been known to make freaky switches like these (like those elusive Wizard heads he played briefly during '99).

of course they unloaded the krank head. it had to be on stage, on top of dummy cabs

No, please don't make fun of my knowledge of Metallica's gear, that's about the only subject I'm sensitive about and I'll rip your eyes out if you laugh again...

That isn't too logical, James wouldn't really need an endorsement by Krank and I don't see his name anywhere on the site. If he was using it as a dummyhead he would be endorsed, otherwise there's no point.

Most likely he was given them, like they were given several marshall prototypes and numerous other amps and toys. He must have liked it.

It didn't sound too bad during their rehearsals, nice chuggy sound, a bit too trebley for my taste though. But definitly different than his latest tones (last world tour) and the SF shows had a different tone as well.

Most players' sound is in their hands . As long as they have decent gear they will get their signature sound .

I agree with GodOfRhythm . I don't think he would have a different amp backstage . Why ??

Yeah, Sorry, that picture was from a site that requires login, it worked here, but that was since I was logged in, I guess...

Anyway it was a pic of James playing through a Krank halfstack.

Okay, I haven't tried a Krank, so I can't really make a judgement on their product, but it certainly sounds like they are getting the same kind of bashing as Crate does.

Yes, they certainly are. But after hearing Loomis used it for parts on TGE, I decided to give them a chance. Also the models for artists and big shots are supposedly not the same ones as the regular retail ones (they hardly ever are).
