EMGs since at least Seasons In The Abyss, maybe sooner. According to the '95 ESP catalog I have, his signature models they used to make had dual 81s, but Kerry says he uses 85s in the neck, and I believe his BC Rich models do have the 85 in the neck, too.

thread resurrection....(anyone remember testament - DNR? do not resuscitate...lol)
what about the very early records? show no mercy still is high up in my top 3 of slayer's recorded sounds, right after reign in blood. any info on that one? iirc, back then kerry used a mockingbird, and jeff a les paul, but i might be way off about that
as for reign in blood, anyone know if that's all marshall 2203? that record was a HUGE step up sonically speaking, especially coming from hell awaits (goddammit that record sounds like SHIT. i remember reading through the website of a forum member that said they used "some mystery preamps" he doesn't know about yet for the reign in blood recordings. any confirmation for that statement?

when did kerry switch to emg's?
he used to use a dimarzio megadrive but i am not sure how long ago?

I think the last guitar he used with passive pickups was his B.C. Rich V with the big Z-Rock sticker on the upper wing. That was around Seasons In The Abyss. He started using ESPs after that and they all had EMGs.
I've only seen Kerry play one ESP! A red/black crackel V. He's very partial to BC's!! Even though Slayer is one of my favorite bands, I'm not to found of their sound! But for their style/sound I can see why they need the mids boosted!!

He was partial to B.C. Rich, then when Bernie Rico, Sr. sold the company, he left and got endorsed by ESP and had two signature guitars made (they're even featured in the '95 ESP catalog I've got), one was black, the other was the red/black crackle. Then when Bernie bought the company back years later, he went back to them.

I wonder why he's still with them now. ESP must have really pissed him off or something, since it seems everyone else has gone to ESP.
"ESP must have really pissed him off or something"
maybe they built him crappy guitars
seriously, the BC-Rich custom shop is GREAT. just look at steve smyth's axes...his white 7 string warlock is a kickass guitar, and so is the purple 7 string ignitor - looks much better in person than it does on pics btw
and of course, don't forget gary holt's (exodus) bernie rico flying Vee....now that's a hell of a geetar
