                          To me the determining combination of factors are technique of course, speed, feel, vibrato, expresiveness and their music.

                            Joe Satriani
                            Yngwie

                            Eric Johnson

                            I am not including blues guys, because this is a different genre. Even including EJ is pushing it for "shredders".

                                I only said that "Not a true shredder" because in my opinion he really reached his peak when he was playing with Megadeth and during that period he wasn't putting out instrumental shred albums. He was just playing great lead for Dave.
                                I've listened to his solo albums and I don't think of him as a shredder, just a really really good tasteful guitarist.
