Re: System of a down on 2 dollar Bill

They can't perform their songs live and their political message feels like a fucking joke compared to RATM who you could feel had something important to say whether you agreed or not... I HATE SOAD!!!

SOAD is terrible.

their singer is a pompous leftist idiot whose voice sounds like a dog being tortured with a fork. if there was one voice I could silence in pop music today it's that loser.

and their songs blow.

other than that...

They had some pretty unique stuff going on earlier albums, but these two new albums are some of the most overhyped crap I have ever heard. There is not one good song on three albums, and the guitarist needs to shut the fuck up and just play, because his vocals are horrible. Oh, and his guitar tone sucks ass now, too.

SOAD's fifteen minutes are up, I think. Uniques does not mean that it is good. The new stuff proves that they really wish they were in Tool or APC.

VERY rarely does one "get discovered". Most that "make it" make it due to very hard work, perseverance, and a 24/7 many year dedication to the goal. Talent and most importantly song writhing help imensly. To sit there and say you just never got discovered shows your arrogance IMO.

[/ QUOTE ]

Again... plenty of us didn't get discovered.
A hit record or hit song is just a lottery ticket. Talent in writing and performing is what you need to create the "lottery ticket". After you create it... you need a shit load of luck to make it worth anything. Ask anybody who made it. Many times... you either have to know somebody or you have to be in the right place at the right time.
Take Ratt for instance.. Tons of hit songs. Great chops. Do you think they would have made it without Uncle Milty?? Maybe not!
What about EVH?
What if Gene Simmons didn't come along?
Of course.. there are plenty of bands who paid their dues and did it with sweat and hard work but even those bands had a degree of luck whether it be a rich family that allowed them to pursue their dream until it became reality or just being in the right place at the right time.
When Nirvana came out, the right place was Seattle.
When Motley Crue came out... LA. Thats luck too.
I grew up in Port Chester NY. I am 100% sure that if Motley Crue was from Port Chester and it was the most happening place to be for metal in the 80's, my band would have gotten signed just like all the other bands did who were pare of the LA scene. Thats luck too.
Being blessed with talent and drive and focus is pretty common in the music business. Heck... its pretty common in the entertainment business but most actors are bussing tables until they eventually have to give up their dream.
That is EXACTLY why I can't stand bands who can't even give a decent interview.

[/ QUOTE ]

JG,

I am not picking a fight with you so dont take this offensivly. Being a huge motley crue fan i can tell you it wasnt a matter of luck and being at the right place. All those guys pretty much moved to LA to persue there dream, as well as many other 80's metal bands. Bands like motley crue lived very poor in shit hole apartments living off chicks supplying them with food. They were willing to give up almost everything to persue there dream and paid there dues. Yeah there were some bands that got lucky because of who they knew or being at the right place at the right time. But you take the core of great 80's bands and you will see the suffered and worked there ass's off to get where they were, threw self promotion and constant playing as much as possible, and yes picking up everything they had and moving to LA.

I am not denying you are a good player, i am just thinking if you would have had the drive you would have picked up and moved to LA, anyone in the metal scene back then knew that was the place to be, and if you wanted to make it you had to go there.

They certainly aren't Greenday who seem to get better and more successful with every record and for some crazy reason, they still give a good interview and appreciate their fan base. SOAD is now just a marketing engine fronted by a bunch of leftist tools who can't come up with anything to say thats of any substance so instead they act like asses. Its not like the interview was probing or contriversial. Julya was just asking quetions that the normal SOAD fan would ask if they were doing the interview. Instead, she had to end the interview early with the producer chiming in that it was going nowhere. They were laughing and busting her stones. I guess they didn't care that a million of their fans were watching. Well..... 999,999 fans anyway. I got off the SOAD bus.

I wish i could have seen the interview, i never really watch them anyway because of there attitudes. I do agree there old stuff was so much better, they got a little too political on the newer stuff, however i do find a few songs i like off the new albums.

Tool's new album will be out spring, now that's the shit I'm waiting for, they are rarely doing something, and they have minimal self promotion but they have enormous fanbase wich pushes them to MTV and radios and stuff. Tool guys are very quiet but make A class music.

Tool has my upmost respect for their approach. They let the music do all the talking for them. Usually, that doesn't work very well, but I guess making extremely interesting music helps.

+1. Tool gets my respect too. Its obvious that they are musicians that actually care about their music.
Back in the day... (I seem to say that alot), Steely Dan was another band that let their music do the talking.

I am a fan of Toxicity, I think it is a great album. And his tone was great on it also. But anything else of theirs does nothing for me. And they do suck live, did anyone see them on SNL earlier this year?

OMG do they ever suck live. The singer can't sing in key to save his life. I wonder how many takes he has per song in the studio.

Once upon a time, there was no Pro Tools, and musicians actually had to have talent.

What was wrong with it? I only saw BYOB(as I downloaded it later), they sounded good and were pretty much dead-on. Was it Aerials that they screwed up?

I got the first two discs real quick, but these two new ones I don't know. For some reason bands trying to whip out a two disc set or two releases very close together has always puts me off. They should have just done one strong disc and left the other crap for b-sides. It is just another indication that they think their shit doesnt stink.
