"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.
I'd like to say a couple of things regarding Dragonforce
1. This particular song isn't their best, the older albums have much better songwriting.
2. They CAN do this stuff live. Both of them are awesome guitarplayers and very tight.
"I hate these filthy neutrals! With enemies, you know where they stand. But with neutrals... who knows? It sickens me!"

I'll vouch for that..although I must take your word on their live performance..
it's a matter of preference..Black metallers think ..Dragon Humpers are gay (I coined that BTW)..Dragon Humpers think ALL death and black metal suck..and the uppity Proggers thinks that all death metal, Black metal , grindcore and Swedish thrash are all sung by the one and only cookie monster..but that is not the case.
I like it all..as long as it is "GOOD"..
There is good and bad in all genres of metal..and NO, "Nu" was NEVER "metal"...especialy ..african american metal or "rap metal"..if you will

There is a common bond I see in the music that Mike and I like..and that it musical capability, value and virtoucity..I just call it "shred"..be it Tony MacAlpine , Greg Howe, Gary Moore, Alexi Laiho, Petrucci, Kotzen, Loomis, EVH, YJM, Satch, Vai, Schenker, Roth and so on...Good guitar playing is just good guitar playing..
I appreciate that in ANY form..But virtoucity and Metal seem to go in hand in hand..more than any other genre of music IMO...and alot of these guys can do it all..metal/fusion/jazz..country chicken pickin and so on..
Metal seems to have the best overall muscians ...it is a very demanding form of music that just keeps pushing the envelope further and further..especially guitars.
The greats such as.. Tony Iommi, Page, Billy Gibbons, Beck and such and even Freley...they planted the seed..and EVH fertilized that seed!!!

I admire skill...but it has to have that "wow" effect, you know, Bill? I know I will never play at 35 bps, but I wish I could.
Stil, it has to grab me by the balls..and hold on tight. I think the key is TONE. And, of course, the "Great Fertilizer" has the greatest tone of all time...well, him and "Earache" Johnson.
Metal on!
Mike
Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.
YES I agree...I gravitate as well as John for VH's tone..ALWAYS did and I ALWAYS will..any amp I play MUST be able to give me THAT...or it's a piece of shit!
I was was weened on Sykes, Schenker, Marino, Uli, Gary and Vinnie Moore, MacAlpine, Gilbert, DiMartini, Lynch, Randy, Oliva..even Steve Lynch, Bratta, etc etc..of all the players Ed got the ball rolling into a frenzy...then came Yngwie and added fuel to the fire..
Hendrix started it tho..
To me the trinity is in this order..HENDRIX, VH, YJM..they were the MOST influential "overall" in the art of shred without debate..even tho Jimi wasn't a shredder...for that time it WAS..he was a showman and over the top..the making of shred!
There is so many players in the game...but these guys were the game!
Now the new hope for me is Jeff Loomis..what he has been doing for a decade now is very "fresh"..and he was weened on the same players as most of us. I'm glad he is getting some recognition now..and he'll get more if I can help it!
Bill Z
BTW..Power metallers..the new Primal Fear and Nocturnal Rites is THE best they both put out..IMO!

Century Media will have it soon...it's an import right now and not released in the states..it'll be about a week or so..until it's availuable mail order..
At that time you may find it at a Borders or FYE as well..if your lucky.
Dragonforce is cool..but the formula and style has been around forver..especially since Helloween's existence...the labels to bands such as these will most likey be on Arise, spinefarm, Candlelight, Underground Symphony and even Century Media...which I believe their last two were on.
Dragonforce is cool but can't hold a candle to bands such as Symphony X, Virtoucity, Space Oddessy, Majestic, Dark Moor, Meduza, Time requiem, Silver Seraph, Opus Alantica, Zero Hour, Valley's Eve, Gus G's Firewind & Mystic Prophesy the almighty Watchtower and my new dicovery Euorforce...that just off the top of my head...but if you want some major VIRTOUSO shit..please check into this stuff.
