They should have let Slayer play the Super Bowl, then all the fans would have went nuts and thrown their seats on the field.

Talk about a band that sucks ass live. Oh wait, they suck ass in the studio too Those guys have the worst guitar tones in recorded history.

The Stones were awesome. Who cares about the little technical mixing problems. No rock band has been doing it longer.

        [/ QUOTE ]

Come on John, let's be honest and look at the whole picture. Keef was about a half step behind the rest of the band. His lead licks reminded me of the two cats I heard fucking outside my bedroom window. Ron's slide work was bad, just plain bad. Charlie looked and played like he wished he was on a beach somewhere, minus the drum kit. And poor Mick, he twied twied twied, but he just couldn't satisfy!

One of the ladies in our office said "but Mick sure does look good and he still moves like a teenager." My response "well, Keef looks like shit, plays like shit, and moves like petrified shit."

As Clint Eastwood once said as Dirty Harry "a man must know his limitations." The Strolling Bones need to learn theirs.

For the rock and roll purists, the performance was definitely raw. After 50 years of playing the same songs, you'd think they would at least turn up the flame and give us something medium well done.

Mark...I can't argue with anything you said. I still think they are a great band and as sloppy as ever. Imagine how hard it must have been when they were in the studio and had to actually nail riffs. It must have been painful. Keith and Ron have always been aweful guitarists... I still dig them both. Especially Keith. He is so bad ass. Frail, stiff, sloppy, clueless yet so totally cool.

I view the Stones like I do my sports heros who no longer can compete at high levels. If Bobby Orr laced em up and tried to play in the NHL today I'd say he sucks today too, just as the Stones do. It doesn't mean that the Stones always sucked They had it going on in the late 60's and 70's they were past their prime in 82 when I saw em....

                Re: super bowl stones.

They were pretty bad, the network was messing with the mic. volume to keep everyone from hearing Mick say "come" the 5 sec.delay may have even added to the problem, the mix was bad, as so was their playing, and playing an unknown new song in a three song set was not a real good move either. You still gotta love em tho, they are a great band, just not this time.

Yeah, they use way too much midrange on album, but I thought they sounded fine live every time I've seen them.

I'm still surprised that Mick didn't break a hip with all the hip gyrations that he was unleashing.

Have you ever seen Slayer live, Tim?

All the numerous times I have they put on a great show and the tone was awesome as well. The only problem is Kerry's tone, way too thin & mid-rangy. Unfortunately that's what everybody remembers about Slayer: Kerry's horrible tone & mad skillz
