I really havent heard Jeff Play so i dont know what kind of shreader he is, although everyone claims he is incredible. But I have always prefered more heart felt solo's then the most technical. Examples i liked guitarists more along the lines of Ratt's guitarists, lynch, mick mars, jake E Lee etc... Where people like Malmsteen and all those neo classical shredders always awed me for the first five minutes and then i would get bored. Same with Via and Satch, yeah great instrumental artists, but i prefered more of there stuff when they wrote more normal songs or even Vai's playing for DLR.

Alot of people make it sound like Satriani was teaching Kirk for a considerable ammount of time. I heard it was only a few lessons, teaching him some scales and stuff.

Then again, that's only what I've heard..... Does anyone know how long Satriani was teaching Kirk for?

In That case Satriani actually did give ME lessons and talked to my wife Val on his cell phone!!!!!

so I gave him my police badge..

He actually did teach me his depressed divebomb from hell and his "lizard down the troat" trick...and I still use that alot!

He also inspired me to shave my head...since I did so that week!! [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

I got pics of that meeting!!!

He also gave me a handful of pics and signed stuff..saying "silly" things...awesome, cool dude! [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

Thanks Tim..I became obsessed with them in '96 ..upon first listen...

It's no secret I know "Metal"..there is only ONE Jeff Loomis , Warrel Dane and Nevermore..PERIOD!

I see them everytime they come thru town..which is pretty often..at least once, sometimes twice a year!!

The only band I will not miss..If I can help it!!

They are by far my favorite metal band and metal guitarist in the world!!

I like the way he slowed down the riffs so you could understand them better! Hell, he could have played them at double speed and they'd still be easy to figure out!
Seriously, Kirk is a prime example of why it doesn't take a great shredder to make it in the music industry....just a great band. In Metallica's day, they were a great band.

I'm late, but I am going to come to Endrik's aid here.

Kirk is Doug Henning's metal twin, seperated at birth.

Ace is the Spaceman, the hack that launched millions of players....how many guys dreamed of BEING Ace? When I was 6 and I first saw Ace, I knew right then and there that I would play guitar.

That passion has never burned out.

Do you think Kirk has had that impact?

All i have to say is, Rock Soilders, that has got to be one of the worst and cheesiest songs ever written....Now with that being said, I love alot of kiss songs that he co-wrote, so there is good and bad with everything. Said it before and i will say it again, you cant compare the two, and well Kirk is doing what most of you dream of doing so stop hating.

On kids that grew up in the late '80s? Absolutely. Each guitarist - and band - were massively influential on their respective generations.

My $.02 on Kirk - Justice has some of the coolest, best though-out soloing over music that heavy up until that point. It goes between nice and melodic ("One") and totally whacked-out ("The Shortest Straw"), and he was definitely using his head for everything. Some of the stuff on the older albums, is awesome, too, from a compositional standpoint. Does he have great vibrato? No. Is he a great shredder? No. Has he been massively influential, despite this? Yes. Sadly, around The Black Album he decided to become a "feel" player, which he pretty much blows at, although there are a couple of good moments on that one.

He's not in the league of Skolnick or even the guy he used to play with (Holt) as far as technique, but he used to be able to compose a solo, which seems to be an underrated skill in metal.
