Re: Scorpions appreciation

I seen them on the Blackout tour when Maiden headlined (Number tour), and they kicked ass. I really like their music until Love at First Sting. That was an alright LP, but it was the beginning of the downfall. (IMO) Blackout is my favorite, but Lovedrive, Lonesome, Animal Magnetism, and Virgin Killers it up there too.

I've played The Zoo so many damn times that if I here it on the radio.... I get sick. Sorry..... It's right up there with Lights Out. My early bands really needed to change set lists more often!!! The couple of times I saw them live, Jabs nailed his solo work. IMHO, he's not a "studio only" player. Dude has chops.

And, yes, one of those times was the tour with Bon Jovi opening up. Must've been the "Sting" tour, IIRC. I was right up front for that one.

The Scorps were one of my all time fave bands up until Crazy World came out and they just seemed to lose the plot. The live shows were awesome too, saw them on the LAFS tour.

One of the best bands of the 80's and one of my favorite bands of all time. Epitome of an 80's band.

Wrote fantastic music and had great musicians in the band. Can't ask for more than that.

LOL! - first song I ever learned how to play.

I like their stuff - can't go wrong with the classic Gibson->Marshall

I saw them a few times back in the 80's and also on the Unbreakable tour in 2004. They still put on a great show but I wish they would change up their set list every now and then.

Do yourself a favor and forget about anything after Virgin Killers. As for Jabs, he may nail his solos in the studio, but he's "poo" live.

Mark, it must have been an off night. When I saw them Mathias was dead on perfect. He nailed everything. I saw them with Rainbow. They were amazing.

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but does anyone remember Herman Rarebell's solo album?
Bon Jovi is like a frozen Coca Cola.. It's cool, it's crunchy, but when all is said and done it is still pop....

I remember Herman doing a video for "Wipe Out". Why I remember that, I'm not real sure.

And, I agree with JG, when I saw Mathias, dude was an absolute monster.

YES..I love em...post and pre Uli...

of course I love the Uli material more..

Uli left after Tokyo Tapes in '78 and they got Mike Schenker to fill in a bit and hired Matthia Jabs at that point on '79's Lovedrive and gained more commercial status and momentum in the US with radio friendly tunes...but it still rocked!

I had Herman's solo on Vinyl...I remebered it wasn't that good.
