Even though I'm a huge Uli Roth fan, I think the Scorpions got better from Lovedrive onward, mostly because Meine/R. Schenker got better as a writing team. Not to say that the Scorps didn't do good music before that.

Jabs is a terrific player--every one of his solos that I've heard is just about perfect in its context. Another great bluesy shred guy.

I love everything thru Lovedrive and they kinda lost my interest after that although I saw em a few times after that and they were really good in the 80s live but, I saw em with Dio and DP a couple years back and it may have been the worst performance I've ever seen by a major band. They played only one song (We'll burn the sky) that wasn't one of their hits ( most of those were cheese) and it was the most uninspired, going through the motions kinda show I've ever seen. Good thing Dio and DP were both really good.

I haven't seen them in a long time, but Jabs was awesome the two times I saw them. A great guitar player. Abd Blackout flat out rocks, I can hear that in my head right now, the line before the solo starts, "I really had a Blackout babaaaay.." and off he goes! Tim, James Murphy and Testament do a super cool version of it on their "best of" cd..as a bonus track..

I don't care for Yngwie's version..he overplays and just doesn't grab the right "vibe" and "feel" of that song!

its a cool tune...my faves are another piece of meat, steam rock fever, he's a woman she's a man, noone like you, rock you like a hurricane...i'm not so keen on the initial riff in charon, but the middle bits cool

I'm a huge Scorpions fan. IMO Matthias Jabs is one of the greatest guitar players ever.

Jabs was HUGE influence. His secret is that he plays with tons of attitude which makes his solos kick a##
I saw them many times in the 80's and even the early 90's on the Crazy World tour and Jabs was fantastic every time. Even Francis would let go on a couple tunes, live, to show some chops. The tone on Blackout will always stand out as a classic Marshall crunch (does it get any better?)

Gotta give props to Uli though what a total monster, for back then! On the live version of "We'll Burn The Sky" there are a couple of runs near the end that just blow me away everytime!!

where are they doin the show with uli??? tell tell tell...i'm gonna be seeing them with judas priest at the albert hall in london and at wacken...please don't tell me he's playing with them on the one other show they're down for in bulgaria?!?!
